A rumour has it that, they are trying to find a south american "mentor" for their coach last year

If they have to they may resign Paul Posa again if they can not get this south american guy out here they were actually keen to keep posa in the first place  Nick B2009-09-18 20:41:47

negotiations have failed with the Brazilian coach Paul  Posa has been retained by the club also signed is Simon Eaddy as goalkeeping coach

Given that ACFC won everything last year, you'd be mad not to re-sign him!

I know Paul is a great coach and all that but at the end of last season I thought he said that the did not want to continue as Head Coach for the next season what made him change his mind was it the upcoming FIFA CWC or what

I'm not sure what it was, but I was glad the board managed to change his mind!

After todays shambolic second half performance in the match against the NZ U17s I do have some thoughts Keryn Jordan I believe has passed it stand outs today were Adam Dickinson Chad Coombes James Pritchett Jacob Spoonley Daniel Koprivcic and Paul Gothard who replaced Spoonley in the second half however after hearing the result between the NRFL all stars and Waitakere 1-1 at McLennan Park today it made me feel somewhat better

Was the final result Auckland City 1 NZ U17 0? Anyone know who grabed the goal???
Permalink Permalink

2-0 final score - Matt Williams grabbed a header and I think Danko got the first.

ACFC killed them in the first 20 but made wholesale changes at half time - including playing a few trialists - so died off in the second half.

It was definitely Keryn Jordan's worst game for a long time but he's still not fully match fit. Got a wee Australian boy who played who looks alright too - former Newcastle and Central Coast youth player.

Squad gets announced in the next few days - not to mention launch of their kickass new website.

Just saw the result was NRFL Allstars 0-1 Auckland City yesterday. Anyone at the game know the scorer and how City played? Thanks.

Looking forward to seeing the new website...!

The goal was scored by Daniel Koprivic. Turned inside the box and took it well after 40 minutes.

The match was relatively even, there could have been no complaints if the All Stars had equalised through two good late chances.

But as one Auckland City stalwart told me, this was pre-season, and no better or no worse than their previous pre-seasons.

Auckland brought on Young and Jordan in the second half. Young may have scored with a volley on a better day. But overall, few players stood out for me.

Perhpas James Pritcheet, who played intelligently at the back, Adam Dickinson had a few nice touches early on. Coombes and Uhlmann got their usual bookings, the boy Pasquale oilinsta had some nice touches when he came on later in the game.

But overall other NZFC franchises should take heart. The performances of Auckland and Waitakere yesterday won't be frightening anyone.

Luis del Monte the best for the All Stars, with an honourable mention for Dan Jones for a gutsy midfield performance.

I've posted a few parochial thoughts on Waikato's win over Waitakere on the Melville United forum.

Yeah - talking to plenty of other guys around the club, it seems it's business as usual for ACFC for this stage of the season. I'm pleased to see Dickinson coming together - he's had such a bad run with injury up until now.

From all accounts Waikato were hugely impressive - a good start for Che and his men.

From what I have seen of Waitakere they are looking very sluggish, and seem to miss Danny at the back. Early days though.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Gothard in goal - he's looked quality from what I have seen. That will be a very interesting test.

I would also imagine it'll be Dicko and Danko up front with Jordan and Young being used as impact players. Early days yet - looking forward to see how it pans out. It's great to have competition in the squad.

yeah the New Website is great from what I have seen of the new nike kit I like and I like the bunch of playing talent for this season we always do look shabby in the pre season what do you expect have to say Keryn has not been looking like the KJ I know and love I do not think playing for the Central United Reserves is enough build up for an NZFC level the AFF reserves comp is not overly great and I have to say from what I saw of him in that he looked pretty out of place too

you need to find a spot for matt williams in that line up - he is the glue, does the yards and wins the ball everytime i think

Great start to the OFC season, 5-0 over the Tahitians, Manu Ura.

What is Daniel Koprivcic's nationality, is he eligible for the All Whites?

What was the crowd like?
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Crowd was probably 6-700 - often hard to tell at kiwitea.
Auckland City quite comfortable winners in the end  but Tahitians showed enough to suggest that they may be difficult at home. tahitians may have some legitimate gripes about Australian referee - certainly if he had been an island referee and NZ side had suffered a couple of his decisions then we would have been complaining !
Pretty good performance for 1st hit out for Auckland - no one really that impressive

I can assure you Phil was there, Dave, in his top hat and tails.

You wouldn't think the little matter of his wedding day would stop him attending an ACFC game, do you? The lad's got his priorities right - football first! :-))

Wedding at midday, match at 3pm, reception at 7pm. Sorted!

Cheers,

Auckland 5 - Waikato 0

Score line says it all

Anyone else go to the game?
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Yeah - to be honest, I thought Waikato were a bit unlucky. They dominated the first 20 minutes but were a bit rubbish after that- Auckland were pretty dominant. 5-0 was a bit flattering, mind.

A bit of a warning shot across the bows of the rest of the NZFC sides.

My 2 dozen with Feverish for the ACFC vs TW game is looking safe!

Another Waitak ACFC derby out at Fred Taylor Saturday at 2pm.
The Herald is suggesting it's a trial for Right back in the All Whites for Scott and Pritchett.

At least this time we won't get rained on.

Trial for allwhites? i dont believe either will be in the world cup team. Scott is just deadset horrific. Pritchett is a better defender and gets foward alot which is helpful, however he would have to be the worst crosser of a ball i have ever witnessed in football. I watch him every week busting his nut to get foward but ive never seen him get a cross into the box or beat the first man. If he can get that sorted he may have a outside chance of going to South Africa.

C'mon City!!

Have to agree on the Pritchett cross thing. I've seen him do eight before finding the right man. There'd be others in both teams more likely to go Sth Africa.

Wouldnt say Scott is horrific be a little surprised if he makes the wc side now tho - interesting to here that emblem isnt wanting to train more than 2 nights a week even tho players want too tho.

So 1 a piece, Chad Coombes first and then Tim Myers from Waitak.  Not sure it was champagne stuff but there was some free flowing periods for each.

2238 crowd in the blazing sun.  Last time it was a few hundred.  Though a lot of ACFC supporters have trouble finding Fred Taylor Park, you can easily drive by without noticing.  There needs to be a ruddy great big sign saying " yes, it really is here, jam on the brakes."
