Which means Waitak finish top?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Totori played as he did in his best days. Now Waitaks way to the CWC lies through Papua New Guinea. A bunch of Solo boys from Hekari will try to disturb Emblens plans.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite

Yip. Went to the game. Top game, to be fair. Benji was great, Krishna is awesome but got kicked to f**k. Butler got sent offf. Smashed Ivan for his 2nd yellow with 15 minutes to go. City's pen was, from where I was, ridiculous. Never a foul. The lino was an idiot. Gave everything to City. Nervous last 15 minutes, but such a good game. I was sitting with a small group of Waitakere fans, luckily. Have that you City bastards!!!!! Made my weekend!

Yeah, but we're not the fifth best team in the world so the expectations are a bit lower.

El Nino. Love everything you are say. Give us some more. Yep Benji and Roy were outstanding. I think Waitakere United were worthy "winners" on the day. However football was the winner on the day. Great crowd, great atmosphere and great hospitility by Auckland City.

The money injection that PNG football receives would be massive if they can finish the deal.
Good thing we didn't base the decision on turning the NZFC professional off the back of a fleeting financial windfall that can't be guaranteed. Who would have thought!?

I was about to say something similar.

I can recall the posts using the 'guaranteed money' from CWC as a reason as to why the 5th best club in the world should be fulltime pros and everyone else can f**k off (or some other completely illogical argument I can't be bothered looking up right now that was used to justify that in the ACFC knitting circle ACFC > Phoenix) Ultimately, there is the reason why the NZFC is not a professional competition - no guaranteed legimate money streams.

I think it all just validates why the NZFC is where it is in the scheme of things. Its an ok competition (for the purposes of NZ) that provides ok players oppotunities to go on to better things if they choose to show up and take them. I think a few people tend to inflate it to being more than it is and how great we are and while I am not happy that the money could be going to PNG (reverse leg to come) I am glad it pretty much nails all that pie in the sky talk about a pro league and why ACFC are world football immortals (so does the world now spin the other way at Kiwitea st now that they aren't even the 6th or even 7th best team in the world?) It now means we stop talking in fairy tale language about all this money that fixes NZ football and the NZFC and look as valid solutions as to how to improve the league. As Mike said above "Good thing we didn't base the decision on turning the NZFC professional off the back of a fleeting financial windfall that can't be guaranteed"

I just want to know how the NZFC teams will survive without their $60k golden payout they have had the last 4 years. They might not be able to pay players and they will have to *gasp* get a job.

Gaw'd did you see the PNG outfit Heraki United knocked off Waitakere United 3-0.  15k crowd. 30degree heat.
Hopefully it'll be the same as before, once they return to cooler climes, the score is reversed.
If not, PNG will be our rep at the Club World Cup!!!

Good thing we held off on turning the NZFC pro with that guaranteed WCC money each year...

You really are taking the piss out of Auckland City/Central. After all, they have won or been in that many finals in the last 12 months. There was the Chath.... or the winter one, the Norther.... oh how about the Youth L.... hmmm well surely the NZFC.... The O Leag......?

So what have they done again? What did all that money on players 'expenses' get them?

Grumpy old bastard alert

Nice weekend coming up, All White selection on Saturday v AkCityFC  at Kiwitea St (tell me this is not behind closed doors) and Sunday pray for Waitakere to score 4 goals plus against fiesty Heraki United at Fred Taylor (waaaaaaaaay out west).
Then next week, on the 9th NZ "A" (probables) v NZFC Allstars (including possibles) at Nth Harbour.
Meanwhile the new grass is looking nice at Forrest Hill/Milford.
