The money injection that PNG football receives would be massive if they can finish the deal.
Good thing we didn't base the decision on turning the NZFC professional off the back of a fleeting financial windfall that can't be guaranteed. Who would have thought!?
I was about to say something similar.
I can recall the posts using the 'guaranteed money' from CWC as a reason as to why the 5th best club in the world should be fulltime pros and everyone else can f**k off (or some other completely illogical argument I can't be bothered looking up right now that was used to justify that in the ACFC knitting circle ACFC > Phoenix) Ultimately, there is the reason why the NZFC is not a professional competition - no guaranteed legimate money streams.
I think it all just validates why the NZFC is where it is in the scheme of things. Its an ok competition (for the purposes of NZ) that provides ok players oppotunities to go on to better things if they choose to show up and take them. I think a few people tend to inflate it to being more than it is and how great we are and while I am not happy that the money could be going to PNG (reverse leg to come) I am glad it pretty much nails all that pie in the sky talk about a pro league and why ACFC are world football immortals (so does the world now spin the other way at Kiwitea st now that they aren't even the 6th or even 7th best team in the world?) It now means we stop talking in fairy tale language about all this money that fixes NZ football and the NZFC and look as valid solutions as to how to improve the league. As Mike said above "Good thing we didn't base the decision on turning the NZFC professional
off the back of a fleeting financial windfall that can't be guaranteed"
I just want to know how the NZFC teams will survive without their $60k golden payout they have had the last 4 years. They might not be able to pay players and they will have to *gasp* get a job.
