Strangest thing at today's game.  Player goes down in front of linesman, gets up swearing at him for not calling a foul, then the linesman pushes him.  Player gets sent off, linesman gets a talking to, game on.

This all happened while I was in the toilet (don't get me started on that) but that's what sposed to have happened!

I was there the linesman definitely pushed the player- did not see the player place a hand on anyone.  Anyone else there?  Very strange situation.

Altho I was there but didn't see it, it happened right in front of where I was standing and my mates all replayed it exactly.  Watch this space.  If a player can get banned for pushing a ref for years if not life, what will a linesman get?

Thats a disgrace.

If players get banned for touching a ref (and I mean not like in the friendly manner) then surely the same should apply to the ref for the other way around?

Someone got an idea of exactly what happened? Some hard facts?

I was looking down and missed it but about 5 people in front of me said the linesman was pushed so I just assumed that.  It was a great game though.  Clapham was good, scored two goals and was all over the field.  Lancaster was brilliant as well.  Both of them were the best on the park and given a chance could possibly cut it at a higher level.

The linesman definitely pushed the player not the other way around.  Saw it with my own eyes unbelieveable.

Twas mentioned in today's press, with Manawatu considering a "counter-appeal" against the linesman.  Scandal!

From what I saw the player did not push the lino.  He was in his face calling for a foul.   Anyone else confirm this?

My mates confirm this.  If it was assaulting the ref it was verbally only.  Definitely no player pushing ref.

One thing that was shocking was that the push from the Lino was so hard it almost flawed the player.  The referee really did not know what to do.  We must hear more about this.

Putting his hand on him and pushing him away (gently to get him out of his face) is fine by me, but  from the sounds of it it was much more than that?

That lino was hilarious, at one point he fell over, don't think it was a collision, just tripped.  He got up, had a bit of a laugh and motioned to somebody over the other side of the field and partially acted out his fall for them.

And was good to see Clapham run over and high-five the boy in the wheel-chair after he scored.  Like the article said, a very nice tough indeed from him.

Yes the pushing of the player, and also the falling over nothing earlier, combined to make an absolute mare of an arvo for the linesman.

But for spectators, what a great Sunday out!

Well done to Canterbury another strong home performance.
According to reports Keith thought your young keeper kept Canterbury in the game before you scored.

Let"s see how good you are when you play a top team.
Auckland won't play dead like Manawatu just because you score first.

I don't have any sympathy for Chettleburgh. I'm just surprised it has taken this long. He has been in officials' faces far too much this season. Needs to grow up.

I'm not terribly fussed about Cantys too games in hand from an Otago pt of view, canty have to play auckland twice and if we can get a result (perferably a win) at english park third should be ours, Although as an aside i'd rather play auckland than waitakere in the playoffs, as we've looked more likely against them (ie nil all at home, level for the first hr away).

I would be one of them is Hawkes Bay and if Canterbury are smart this will be played at the very death of the season against a very poorly Hawkes Bay team.  Canterbury are looking very strong now the full team is available for selection - the defense is not leaking and we are scoring goals with only one striker named in the team.  Can't wait to meet Otago will be a great game - Canterbury 3 nil I say.

If we win our 3 catch up games we're in 2nd place. Ahead of Waitakere on goal difference. Just hope we do the business against the amateur professionals

Cheers, wont get time to make the youth, although that would've been good to see. Should really be putting money towards Canterbury's bank account anyway.

Canterbury 2-0 Otago.  Was that our tenth game, as the NZFC table says?  Or is it yet to be updated?  We should comfortably make the play-offs.

First 70 minutes were dire.  Very bland, very boring football.  Good goal by Lancaster though and after that there were several good chances in quick succession.  Clapham then converted a penalty by chipping it straight down the centre.

Crowd of 755 according to the NZFC website.  How accurate is that?  Do they just estimate or do they count tickets?

That was our 11th game. Up to 3rd now and looking good, definitely in the playoffs barring absolute disaster. Looked more like 800 + to me, stand was full as was the embankment with a good crowd on the far side.

Canterbury to cement their place in the finals this weekend.  This has been a fantastic turn around from the Monsef and late Halligan days - at last someone that can coach and has a rapport with the players and the fans.
