Who are they talking about?

What an absolute load of nonsense. First we are signing players from div 1 in the northern leagues and if Auckland and Waitakere have no interest in them then why the hell should we be interested in their rejects? Even Miles John was rejected from Hawkes Bay so we took him on and personally i have been disappointed with him. Liked the look of Stansfield but unfortunately he's now injured and has been released.

We give all these out of towners an opportunity and i agree theres not much else around Canterbury but someone like Danny Ede is a proven scorer in the MPL and with Cash Tech who are basically the Canterbury team anyway. Is there a reason why he has never played for Canterbury or been given a chance in the squad? Cant be because he played at Selwyn last year because Hoffman is playing in that division next year with FC20.

Was funny to see the difference between Hawkes Bay coach and Devine on Saturday. Without Highfield making 3 or 4 big saves we were in trouble.

They looking at players from the islands?? if he talking bout o-league.

its was well known around Canterbury KB never liked him. I wouldn't blame him if he wasn't interested in playing for them after being constantly overlooked just like alex pak. But if he couldn't get in the squad being Cash Techs top goalscorer 2 years ago he never will

Devine is looking to sign "an experienced striker, who has previously played in the national league and O-League'

Would suggest a former Auckland City or Waitakere striker - so, who's not playing for them that has played ASB and O-League?

Benjamin Totori, Allan Pierce, Maxim Manko, Rory Turner, Daniel Koprivcic...

Maybe Adam Dickinson as I think his is unattached at the moment. Profile below when at Auckland City.

shock your still abusing your team.

Rejection from hawkes bay? Does that mean everyone from last season got rejected because it looks like this season there is  a new starting 11.

If cashmere tech are so good (winning  Chatham cup) how come they havnt won a single asb title?

Can we still be called Canterbury United? Saying in report about having the best defence record and they sign another defender??

Dicko: chip from the Sean Devine block.

Pablo Moya was already living here for work anyway and played ten games for Canterbury last ASB season. And he has played for Western.  So it was a no-brainer to re-sign him. Versatile: he can play centre-back or centre-midfield.

I was sitting next to Pablo's brother Gonzalo at the game on Saturday with his Chilean friend  - top blokes.

Gonzalo plays for Western's Fourth Div. team.

He said Pablo played for Deportes Temuco and Audax Italiano B (reserves of Audax, one of the major clubs) in Chile.

He has enough profile in Chile to have regular reports on his ASB Premiership exploits on a website dedicated to Chilean players abroad:

http://chixem.blogspot.co.nz/search/label/Pablo%20...

Yes, they're reading about Canterbury United in Chile...

Adam Dickinson is also a worthwhile signing - good pedigree. Will add something to the squad.

Except he hasn't got a record of scoring lots of goals in the ASB Premiership though has he? 59 apps Auckland City, 13 goals:

http://int.soccerway.com/players/adam-dickinson/10...

He does do other good stuff though from what I've seen.

I am not a Dicko fan because I think he is a thug but he will instantly give them a target man. I guess he needs Clapham because Dicko does need the ball in the right place and Clapham will do that for him nicely. Considering Hoffman and Stansfield are not much, he is an upgrade for sure.

Definitely need someone with a bit of mongrel up front. I've heard a few people at games saying how impressed they were with our imports....not sure what games they've been watching. Hoffman has the physique of a great sportsman n that's where it ends...crap first touch,no vision, gets knocked off the ball way to easily, could go on all day. Nkoy on the other hand has a decent 1st touch, has gud skill, is bloody fast but plays with his head down n doesn't have much of a footballing brain. Miles had much to deliver after all the write ups but has falled to deliver being poor in every game I've watched, he's still young n has the potential but surely we have youngsters already living n playing in Chch tht are better than him. Even though we are improving n hopefully can get a few goals with Dicko I'm still not entirely sure tht we have the right coaching crew.

i don't understand why they let Marquez go, he was an usefull 2nd striker for that matter

I'm hearing that the lads from out of town were promised all sorts of things to make them feel comfortable relocating and most of them havnt happened. It's only 3rd or 4th hand but made me think that's why Marquez didn't do a second year?

Maybe another reason to recruit locally?

Also another reason should be money surely its cheaper to have a local player. So the board are just as much to blame as the coach IMO

From today's Press:Injuries ravage Dragons for South Island derby against Southern UnitedBRENDON EGAN00 24/01/2015

Shane Wenzlick/Fairfax NZ

ATTACKING BOOST: Former Auckland City and Waitakere striker Adam Dickinson will make his first start for a depleted Canterbury United tomorrow in Dunedin.

Canterbury United have a horror injury situation on their hands ahead of tomorrow's ASB Premiership clash against Southern United in Dunedin.

Coach Sean Devine, a former English professional, joked it was so bad he almost contemplated dusting off the boots himself.

The Dragons have five players out through injury, while several others will miss the clash under the roof at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Defender Julyan Collett is the most severe of the injuries.

Collett, who bravely stayed on the park last week after rupturing his medial collateral ligament, is out for the next four to six weeks.

Canterbury will also be without midfielders Miles John (groin), Mark Peers (calf) and defender Anthony Jones (foot). Striker Ash Wellbourn has made himself unavailable for the rest of the campaign to recover from a string of niggly injuries.

Youngster Rossi Nkoy won't be back this season either, returning to Auckland for personal reasons. Central midfielder Tom Boss, who has started in every match this season, is away tomorrow.

"We've got to move forward. Out of adversity comes opportunity," Devine said.

"Some of these boys will get their opportunity and maybe they can put a good performance in and keep their place."

New recruit Adam Dickinson, who debuted off the bench in last week's 4-3 loss to WaiBop United, will start up front.

Shawn O'Brien and Mario Hoffman will operate on the flanks with Aaron Clapham, Stu Kelly and Cory Mitchell running the show in the midfield.

The Schwarz twins, Tom and Dan, Pablo Moya and Dan Terris will anchor the defence.

Aaron Spain, Ryan Stanley, Jacob Allen, Andreas Wilson and goalkeeper Danny Knight, who have a combined 11 ASB Premiership caps, form a young bench.

"It will be good to see [Dickinson] get a start. He made a major difference when he came on last week. This is the sort of player, if we're going to be serious, that we need to start attracting to the region next season," Devine said.

Despite last week's loss, Canterbury remain in fifth place - just one point off the top four.

On a congested ASB Premiership ladder, Canterbury will be desperate to bounce back with a win over bottom-placed Southern United.

The Dragons' next two games are against top sides Auckland City and Team Wellington.

Southern have had the edge over Canterbury this season, upsetting them 1-0 in Christchurch in November and also winning the pre-season contest.

"It's not going to be easy. They're in need of points. We've just got to match their work ethic and commitment. Hopefully we can get the three points."

Canterbury have disappointed in games they should win this season. Devine said it was a topic the players had spoken about.

"It's been a factor for a few seasons. We seem to perform against the top sides in the league but we seem to struggle against the sides which aren't as technically as good or don't have the depth of the Aucklands or Team Wellingtons."

Not a great comment from any would be hopefuls next season.Already telling you he wants to attract players from away that none of the top teams want.

Ex pro players do not necessarily make good coaches or managers.

An emphatic 3-1 away win despite seven players not available from previous squads (Nkoy gone home, Welbourn quit, Collett unlikely to be fit until March, John, Peers and Jones injured and Boss unavailable).

Shows that the supposed "second stringers" may be worth a starting place.

Shame that Ash Welbourn is never fit enough to show his stuff in the ASB.

After apparently doing a proper job at the base of midfield last weekend, Cory Mitchell has moved up north due to his work; will be available for games in the North Island.
