Anyone know anything about him? Even a position? Could be winger with that #11 top and that would suit us well as we had very little out wide last season

Considering Nelson Suburbs are so close to Cashmere Technical this year (they have a better head to head record) you would think Canterbury United would want some of their players to head south for summer.

Or, like the fact they have been after Southern United players already, maybe a few more get the call.

I believe youth team players have been given out letters regarding selection, camps n trainings. Any truth to this and any names on whos been selected.

Unsure but hear the Pheonix Reserves turning out in the Young League this summer rather than the ASB Prem. League.

So that would leave it with a 7 teams league? (taking out the Wanderers)

Considering how well they have gone this season, Canterbury United would be silly not to look at their players. Big question mark over which ones will move though.

A more regional based squad.

No Highfield / Kelly / O'Brien / Knight... where is Cory Mitchell? Auckland?

Hope Coey plays better than he did v Halswell last weekend.

We won't be seeing Auckland and Wellington players hitting the posts and missing the goal by blazing over when given an open goal.

Cory is now living / working in Hamilton.

Well he still kept a clean sheet in that game..

All those regional players not retunring to CU, missing Barton & Wellbourn also.

Anyone know why all these players are not returning?

Looks like it will be a tough season ahead.

Wellbourn is currently on an OE and have heard some of the players have decided to have a break from footy over the coming summer.

stu kelly seems a questionable omission?

after last year's cock up of a season, i would have thought the priority would be to simply get the best local players on the field, regardless of age and supplement them with one or two high caliber outsiders and gel that group into an ultra-cohesive unit (which they should already be as most would be from cashmere)

How old is Stu though, 36?

Experience verses youth or youth verses experence??

The last time Canterbury went down the latter path it was not too flash for a couple of season's. #recordloss

Ok 34 is not as bad as 36 so I do apologise.

It is a valid question to ask. The 2 games I saw of CU up here in Auckland last year, no one really performed with distinction so its hard to knock any approach they do take cause it has to be better than Devines....

Juan Chang has signed.

Been following the Canty news from afar as I work. I agree that surely the best in town performers should be his base for the team. Willy was reported saying this but I see more out of town players signing and none of the actual best performers in town are ??

So nothing has changed really but what do you expect when you have an out of town coach! I'm picking that there is no strikers in chch as I see there is none named in squad as of yet. Do not want to say it but not feeling great about this season, already with amount of out of towners seriously thinking of not making effort of coming up to watch non cant utd!

So who do you want him to sign if there are no strikers in CHR?? Guys that are not good enough?

How do we know they not good enough if never giving a chance?? Michael White, Tim Dunn, Sam Miles, Dan Ede, Sam Ayers im sure there is more that will never be considered. O'Brien and Barton both had chance but never produce have they which is probably why they don't want to play

I guess thats a fair point. I will profess to not know some of those players you list.

I am happy to wait to see how things pan out.  Are the same 'Puppet Masters in play though'?

if the local christchurch names that i have seen play over the years are half way fit and fully committed, then there is a very good national league team there ready to be put together

i just don't buy the statement that the locals aren't good enough (i'm a wellingtonian btw)

the problem is that each coach seems to come with their own five year plan which varies every time but never seems to be to simply pick the best players that can be picked and mold them into a good unit.  and of course the five year plan never lasts more than a year or two and then we start all over again.

look at what ranieri's done at leicester; he's just come in and got the players he has super well organised and hey presto there we have a table-topping team of journeymen

and with all this talk of there being no money, why is money being spent on bringing in players?! even if they were any good, why the fudge?

Agree totally with what's been said. A few whispers going round 6/7 players from outside Christchurch are on the way

another rant...

federations are responsible for coaching development.  mainland has now appointed two out of town coaches in the past two seasons.  isn't this an indictment of their own performance?  where is the pathway?  where are the coaches that they are meant to be developing?  remember, this isn't some tinpot federation, it's frikking mainland football which covers at least a quarter of the entire country!

what they are saying is that

1. we cannot develop players (even the half decent players we have are poms)

2. we cannot develop coaches

therefore, we really are quite shark

but please turn up to watch

I think it is the Canterbury United board that have appointed the coaches not the Mainland Board.
