Great result to set the early pace. Do not forget at home next Sunday at 4:35pm to Team Wellington who had to come from behind twice against WaiBOP before scoring late in the game to win 3 - 2.

Yeah.  Canterbury deserved winners.  Better team for most of the 90 minutes.  Young WeeNix midfield will have learnt a thing or two facing Clapham and co.

Lost count of how many times Matt Conger got told to fudge off by Cantebury players but he never did anything about it so i guess it's acceptable now.

The 3 - 0 win was the Dragons first clean sheet since defeating Wellington Pheonix at ASB on 20 December 2014.

good win for the dragons! Few things 1) Ref was a disgrace, way out if his depth 2) Clapham is one of the biggest show ponies I've seen in some time, spends more time worrying about that disgraceful haircut if you wish to call it that. 3) The Cash Tech/ Canty United behind the scenes poaching/ cavorting continues... Article in this weeks paper has Chang voluntarily coaching for the club, biggest load of shark ever, I'm sure Coastal, Halswell etc had " voluntary " positions available.... Now lets all wait for the dribble defense of the continued actions that all in sundry turn a blind eye too, for the good of the game and developing talent, YEAH RIGHT. On a positive decent crowd lets hope it conti

what was your gripe with the ref?

Terrible decision making, or lack there of. Tackle on Messenger, TW pen and disallowed Canty goal for non existent push just some examples. Overweight, slow and unable to keep up with play led to some questionable decisions, way out of depth imho

It was an odd kinda game really and yet again, another game with TW involved and it got testy. I thought the ref was alright but the tackle on the 16 he missed that. Ouch.

The import Chan I thought was not much chop and Clapham played a bit of alone hand again but they have 2 wins on the board.

Grumpy old bastard alert

Exactly, def take the 2 wins to start. Clapham for as long as I can remember has been that way, as I said too worried about how he looks or his overrated reputation. Agree re the import, couple of younger lads around the region maybe better worth investing in. But still watch for Canty Tech to pull the strings to keep him here!

Actually the referee was Chris Kerr and is one of NZs best referees and has refereed at international level.

I can't say why he disallowed the Canterbury goal as I didn't see the push either. Didn't see the tackle on Messenger (Unfortunately was watching the game around a fussy baby), but I think the TW penalty was the correct call.

I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

Check the Team Wellington thread if the rumours are true looks like Team Wellington like to show aggression on and off the field....

I remain unconvinced that accusations about CTFC's 'horse trading' on an Internet forum is the way to correct whatever injustices you believe have occurred.

It just gets people's backs up.

Too true, just because you are helping with a bit of coaching during the summer does not mean you will even be playing in Christchurch during the winter.

Good on you Chris.  It's a thankless task being a referee some days, big ups to you that you have the balls and grace to engage with someone in a constructive manner when they have opened the dialogue with such emotional and cutting comments.

Respect to you - and something I wish more players played with!!

I think you will find that the Canterbury United management have encouraged all of the team to get involved in junior coaching around the clubs. Yes Coastal did have a need, that's why I believe Andre De Jong and others assisted in the same capacity at their club. Keep looking for those conspiracies, but don't wallop your self off on here with no basic knowledge of what's going on!

The ref was not a disgrace nor out of his depth, I didn't agree with all of his decisions but the fact is he is consistently shining at this level. Well done Mr Kerr for calling him out, but I expect you won't get a response.

Put down the chocolate biscuits Timtam, take a couple of deep breaths and if all else fails go to the croquet instead!

If that is the case Ozvaldo then great because it should and needs to happen more often than previously, perhaps I jumped the gun regarding tech based on previous misconceptions so stand corrected and I'll always admit to getting it wrong and as the wife knows it's being happening a bit lately! First game I've seen Mr Kerr officiate, if he is one of the better referees going around then from my point an off day which many a player on Sunday had also.

i personally think it's not very cool to ask a referee to explain his calls in a public forum.  We should not be taking advantage of having Mr Kerr as a contributor in the forum - i appreciate your question is probably quite innocent but i don't think it's a good look.

Kick-off time change for Canterbury United's next home game at ASB Football Park.

The Dragon's game against WaiBOP United on Thursday 10 December will now kick-off at 7:05pm.

Permalink Permalink
over 10 years ago · edited over 10 years ago · History

Early kick-offs in both the Youth League and Premiership matches for Canterbury up north today:

WaiBop Youth vs. Canterbury 12.30 pm

Hawkes Bay v. Canterbury United 1 pm

Youth League table:

Waitakere on top with 19 points, followed by Team Wellington (18), Canterbury United (17) and Auckland City, Southern and WaiBOP (16).

A Canterbury Youth win today will take them to the top of the table, a draw to second on goal difference.

(Canterbury and WaiBop youth have a game in hand over Waitakere and Team Wellington who played yesterday)

ASB Premiership table: Auckland City = 10 pts, Hawkes Bay = 7 pts, Team Wellington = 6 pts, Canterbury = 6 pts

A win today vs. Hawkes Bay takes Canterbury to second on the table, leapfrogging Hawkes Bay.

(Team Wellington don't play this round due to Auckland City's absence overseas)

From the Canterbury United facebook page:

Head coach Willy Gerdsen has added Dan Ede to the Canterbury United squad. Ede, who is training again after a long layoff with a foot injury, has been a prolific finisher for Selwyn United in Mainland Division one. Welcome to the team Dan!

WG must have been reading the comments on here from way back.

No games for him to watch in Div One the last few weeks so if he didn't rate him before the ASB season started what has changed?

Now just needs to add a couple more home [Chch] boys.

As stated earlier on this tread Dan was not considered due to injury so now must be back to full fitness, had been training with the squad prior to injury.

Unsure now that Dan has been named, if there are any spots / gaps left in the Dragon's roster.
