Weird move, I thought he was playing well at Olympic. Wests aren’t exactly playing attractive football either.

Yes, the change is playing style from Wests/Ole is an absolute about turn from the Declan Edge era. Go to play is the centrebacks playing long diagonal balls wide. They are certainly getting results but bringing back all the older players and the imports from the States is certainly contrary to the historical philosophy of developing younger players from within. Edge must be apoplectic.

Done a hell of a lot for NZ football, and it's always good to have some outliers or disrupters around, questioning the status quo. But Declan is a nutter.

Give you one guess on where he is on COVID and Trans. Also now seems to be anti-vegan, which is quite the change from a few years ago.

So he's a full-fledged (what the Aussies call) cooker. Maybe he's pushing for a high list ranking for the Brian Tamaki FREEDUMS Party.

yeah was really surprised that Stop Out allowed the WR tourney to go ahead, the grounds were sodden and in an ok condition at the start, but by the end of game 1 they were cut to shreds. by the end of the day there was noway you'd be playing on that for another week or two.

A mother said the other day that when she questioned the vege thing at Ole, Declan said ‘would you eat your dog?’ Haha

They were investigated by Oranga Tamariki at one point after a bunch of kids were injured weren’t they?

I know that while he was vegan he was eating steaks in his room at night because one of the coaches told me while out on the tiles.

Orange Tamariki :D

Seriously, the answer to "would you eat your dog?" has to be: "no, I'd eat yours though"

The dog Declan had at the time wouldn't even make a decent snack.

Heard Stop Out is looking for a new home ground and training ground for the rest of the season. HCC have kicked them off after they ran the kids tournament while Hutt Park was closed.

Why can he not be anti-vegan?

He can be whatever he wants to be, but for a while Ole under declan was advocating a vegan diet.

Gees. See they stacked their resies after the postponement and got smashed.

at the halfway point how does everyone think the northern and southern league teams stack up compared to the central league this year? hate to say it but I think we are weaker and I think the our teams (bar the greeks) may struggle in national league this year (even versus the upper end southern league teams)

Watched Olympic take on Wests today and there is a big gap between first and second. Not sure why a team that has Josh Rogerson, Noah Tipene, Ollie VR and Ryan Feutz are just content to play long ball from their keeper to their nine. There were times when Olympic looked like they were just toying with them.

The weenix will go pretty good by the time they get to national league.

Not sure who will join them at this stage, Napier have their work cut out for them. Petone might be a good shout too. Looking at the results Miramar might miss out on National League.

Follow Southern League a lot more closely than Central League - Christchurch United have remained very good so far and been much better defensively, they should definitely give National League a better shake this time around.

Cashmere seem to have drifted a bit and held on for a point against United the other day... feels like their standards have dropped a bit and perhaps overreliant on certain players. If they make it, bottom half is pretty likely. Dunedin City Royals or Coastal will also be up against it if they make it.

eeeek, bet they are regeretting that decision, the kids had a blast though and it was a great day - but not worth the damage to the pitch or the cost to clean it up I'd imagine.

cashmere had their skipper sent off in the first half, competed and scored with 10 men and could have nicked it at the end so don't think the gap between those two is as big as you think.

Anyways any predictions at the halfway stage for how the league is going to end up?

Excellent predictions so far! Race for that 4th spot looks wide open and that's a beautiful thing.

At the bottom though... a shame that Whanganui are still without points, and it's probably only North Wellington they can catch. Hopefully that at least turns into a contest rather than a formality.

Really interesting what is going down at Ole/Wests. Heaps of ex players returning, apparently with the carrot of potential exposure to pro teams in the USA...through the new coach. Bit ironic that the Ole players and parents derided all and sundry for not making 1000 passes a game but are now ok with a game that takes route 1 to a new level. Will be interesting to see how this goes longer term. A strong Ole is really good for football locally as an alternative to the Nix Academy and to give CL more depth. Just wondering how they will attract new players to the Academy with a playing style that is such a contrast to what has gone before.

I’ve watched Northern League and Central League and think the Northern teams are miles ahead (Olympic excluded).  Miramar are struggling and Wests a bit inconsistent. Could be another disappointing national league

I’ve watched Olympic a few times, it almost looks like they are biding their time before they kick off another gear.

Other teams have shown moments. I don’t love how the weenix play but they will do well out of it.

Petone look okay, but they just don’t close stuff out.

I thought Karori would do better but I guess what happens on the grass is different. It will be an interesting back nine towards the end of the central league.

This popped up on my timeline and the fact that there is a Portuguese language account that provides info on our national league aside I think it posed an interesting question.

Who do you think could go pro from the National League? And what even is pro?

If we are talking league of Ireland or one of the Scandinavian leagues I reckon there’s a tonne of guys even in Wellington who could do it.

Tor Davenport Peterson (sp?)
Ryan Fuetz
Josh Rogerson
Joel Stevens
Jonty Roubos
Ollie Van Rissell (sp?)
Sam Lack
Jaga Scott Greenfield
Kailan Gould

And that’s before you even look at the weenix kids

OVR was supposedly offered a Phoenix contract a couple of years ago, but had a family situation that meant he didn't want to be stuck in Aussie for several months.

I saw the same thread but covered guys from the Northern League side of things.

There would be a heap from across the country that could make the step up professionally, if not to real top flight leagues, at least the likes of Scandinavia, Scotland, Ireland, Wales etc.

I liked this shout though coming from Stop Out.

I think there is an element of Kale doing well beyond the first team being a technical director first and head coach second. My only thing is that the social side to Miramar is a product of Better Football fielding teams under the Miramar banner so is Kale doing well or is better football doing well.

If you think a technical director has anything to do with social footy then you are indeed a shambles
