A good looking side going foward.  They look very very week at the back.  My sources tell me they thrashed a local team in napier 7 nil on Sat.  But the local team was made up of anyone who wanted to turn up and couldn't play to save themself.  However looking at the squad list I'm sure there will be no shortage of goals from the two allwhites strikers (Brockie and Smith) or the imports (Fyfe and Henslee) or the old fathfull (Mcivor,  Birnie and Cudd) I think they will have to work extra hard to keep them out at the other end.

yeah, it looks like that will be the case. expect peverley and beattie to line up in defence.

Stealing Peverley out from Roger Wilkinson is a big call.

He needs to make a pretty big step up to come close to the hype surrounding him while he was in Germany.

I reckon a quality side this year- definitely the most competitive team since the leagues inception. Watch out for Robbie Hunter, will be a rock in defence.

Spoke to my mate from the Bay last night. He said United looked sharpe going forward although against a poor team. Apparently Peverley played Center back and looked good. Jarrod Smith was sharpe up front which is where HB will be expecting him to bag a few goals. Also said Leon Birnie was back after couple of injury plagued years. He said Brockie was quite sharpe but missed a few sitters and Jenkins on the right went around the defenders everytime he got it. He didnt think the 2 new imports played and said that Ian Hogg was also missing. Will be interesting to see how the go if they can get the defense right as they have plenty of fire power. Is Jonathan Gould still coaching them?

Yup Johnny's still coaching them. Yeah apparently very little can be made from the weekends game from what I hear, apparently the opposition were pretty poor (as you said) and players were played out of position a fair bit. But hey, any time on the pitch has gotta be good pre-season!

I see Ricky Gillies has left Stranraer, apparently for personal reasons. Maybe HB can tempt him back down here.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Can't. They have their quota of imports...

I didn't know there was a limit on foreign players in the NZFC. You learn something new every day!

HB will struggle at the back. They might score a few but they will concede plenty too.

peverley wil slot in a center back and the younger hogg will play at left back both are good defenders, they just need to work out the other two positions and they wil have 1 of the better backlines in the leauge. should be a much tighter competition this year. it will make better watching for us fans

Great 2-1 win over Team Wellington on the weekend. Goals to Fyfe and Brockie. Stayed strong at the back, but neither team was at full strength. Good positive start though.
