IFFHS is an organization recognised by FIFA that chronicles the history and records of Association Football. It was founded on 27 March 1984 at Leipzig, Germany by Dr. Alfredo Pge with the blessings of the general secretary of the governing body of world-wide football at the time, Dr. Helmut Kser. The IFFHS was based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates for some time but has recently been relocated to Bonn, Germany. The organization continues to receive ongoing logistical support from FIFA.
Oceanias Club of the 1st Decade of the 21st Century (2001-2010)
Contrary to the manner in which the top club of each continent was determined for the 20th century (1901-2000), national competitions were held in all countries over the entire first decade after the turn of the millennium. All these national club competitions are taken as much into consideration for the monthly Club World Rankings as are the club competitions held by the continental Confederations and by FIFA. In doing so, each individual result of these aforementioned competitions is considered from start to finish. Hence, for any given continent, chances are the same for each club during the first decade (2001-2010).
The yearly points scored by clubs in the Club World Ranking are added from 2001 to 2010, yielding the continental club ranking. The first-placed club is that continents top club for the first decade. The top clubs can thus be determined the same way for each of the six football continents.
Late in 2005 Football Federation Australia (FFA) left the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) with FIFAs approval and joined the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Since clubs must be affiliated with the respective Confederation, only those points are considered for the Oceania club rankings of the first decade which Australian clubs earned during the period of 2001-2005. Therefore, depending on the period, Australian clubs may appear in either the Oceania or the Asian continental club rankings.
Auckland City FC - Oceanias Club of the 1st Decade
Since as of January 1, 2006, Australian clubs no longer earned any points in Oceania, their Oceania rankings dropped accordingly. Auckland City FC having gained the most points over the entire decade is therefore Oceanias Club of the 1st Decade of the 21st Century.
Auckland City FC will be honoured as Oceanias Club of the 1st Decade of the 21st Century on occasion of the World Football Gala 2011 with a Certificate and a Trophy.
