SS Prem 2016/17 TV Games: CU v TW | Sun 19th Mar | 4.30pm | SS3
YAY FOOTBALL IS BACK
And a game at Kiwitea to kick off as well - MINT.
Okay so setting aside the horrific press release this is quite good news I think. Would like to know more about the deal, but even assuming the worst (there's no cash involved) it still shows (I reckon) what a difference being on the tele can make.
This is my favourite bit of the presser: “It has a great presence on SKY Sport and as a former player I know that people around New Zealand are hugely passionate about their team playing in this competition and how much it means to win the trophy,” he said. “We feel the competition is going from strength to strength and we are excited to be part of that and help take it to the next level.”
I'm pretty sure every word of that para is a porkie. But let's not let lazy comms obscure the fact that we have a new commercial sponsor. Go Stirling Sports!
Probably good promotion for Stirling Sports too, as to be honest I didn't know they still existed let alone have over 50 stores around the country

OH SHIT THERE'S GAMES ON SATURDAY!
Amazing.
*explodes*
No more Thursday night matches.
Saturday afteroon 4:35pm games.
HARDLY ANY GAMES AT THE QBE.
Bloody hell, they've made it better.
I really enjoyed last season and was hoping they would keep atleast 2 games on TV a week but I see they had to cut back on a game being televised each round. Sky being tight asses again..
Cannot fudgeing wait.. I enjoyed watching this more than the Nix last season, needs more coverage.
TV Coverage:
Auckland City - 7 games
Wee Nix - 6 games
Hamilton Wanderers - 5 games
Team Wellington - 4 games
Canterbury United - 4 games
Eastern Suburbs - 3 games
Hawkes Bay - 3 games
Waitakere United - 3 games
Tasman United - 3 games
Southern United - 2 games
Cutting those dreadful Thursday night games is a winner.
Saturday afternoon football - FIRE UP.
Here's the draw: http://www.nzfootball.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/20...
Whats up with the last two rounds being spread across a month?
Hawkes Bay, Cantebury and Southern play on the 26th of Feb and then not again until the 19th of March. While Auckland, Eastern Suburbs and Waitakere play on the 26th of Feb and the 4/5th March then not again until the finals (presuming qualification)
The OFC draw has caused problems.
There are a few things I'm pleased to see
- Firstly very few games at QBE Stadium when it's empty it makes for a terrible atmosphere.
- All Auckland City home matches at Kiwitea Street as it should be
- Waitakere's return to Trusts Arena
- Eastern Suburbs playing at Bill McKinlay Park instead of Ngahue Reserve
Southern United are sharing their games around down south. 4 home games at Peter Johnstone Park in Mosgiel, 2 in Invercargill, 1 at FBS and 2 still to be confirmed
Printer-friendly draw for you all.
I know I said this before but I'm still guttered they took away an extra game. Thats alot of games for a reserve team to be playing on telly, especially considering Team Wellington are the champs. Money talks I guess..

That's pretty horrific. End of season momentum etc will be non existent

Don't know if it is so much money talks or money saved. The Weenix have TV games at Westpac x2; QBE Stadium and FMG Stadium which will be curtain raisers to Wellington Phoenix games so easier to have because Sky is already set up for both games.
Got to hope for the big Nix that the games get on one of SS1, 2, 3 or 4 as well.

It's a direct trade off - some grounds are not camera friendly, but having midweek games at QBE and other locations allowed for more games to be filmed - so now we have the return to weekend football and clubs own home grounds for the most part, which means less games live. the round up show will have goals from every game so there is still plenty of coverage.
Also it didn't really rate very well last year so hardly a reason to increase coverage...

only a guess but SKY tend to prefer to keep curtain raisers on the same channel as the main game - for example if the Warriors play on Sports 2 (home game) then the NSW Cup and the U20's will all be on 2 as well.
So I would assume the SSP game will be on the same channel as the Nix game - which may or may not be on a Pop-Up.

Thanks for clarifying chopah, I'm just acting like a spoilt brat now that the extra game is gone. I just hope its televised on Sky Sports 1,2,3 or 4. And I suppose we'll be getting All Whites fixtures this year which should add to all the football coverage. Yay!
guttered
9 x Games at David Farington Park which include: 2 YF "day out" options to see the WeeNix and then the big one TW V AC
Did NZF look at the draw for the National Women's League before posting this?
I see the Dragons are at home R1 (2:00pm K.O) with the Pride also at home on the same day (1:00pm K.O), both at English Park. Might be a bit of a tight turn around, or are the women playing 25min halves like at U19's?

Ooo I like it. Up the ante!
Your move News.
The SS Prem? Sponsored by 1940's Germans? Ooh er, twitter won't like that.
All qualification drama will be gone with rounds 17 and 18 being as they are. It's a shame, but apart from that and the extra TV game lost, I think many things have improved
