As some of you may be aware that this weekend ther was a scheduling clash between the NZFC (Otago vs HBU) and the Highlanders first pre season match at home to the Chiefs. So instead of making one game go elsewhere etc, Highlanders vs Chiefs will be played at 2.30 follwed by OU vs HBU at 6, both at the house of pain.
If this is marketed right I am hopeful that this could draw some sport but not specifically football fans to the game. If it goes well and OU play well I am optimistic that this could lead to a decent crowd for the 31st against the teedubs.
My one issue is that, and I am aware this is unavoidable due to players needing to warm up, they are a touch to far apart. Ie the rugby at 2.30 finishes at 4.15-30 and thats still at least an hour and a half til the footy. And the brook is hardly near town like the tin. But done properly, this could work well. I for one will be going to both. And shoved in between 2 t20's on Friday (men and women bith vs Canty) and a t20 on sunday (men vs CD) its a good wee sporting weekend.

Pitch markings?
Not sure
Maybe Slightly longer grass for the rugby, a trim then remarking it for football.
Blue lines for rugby, white for the footy. I'd have to say football must be priority sinces its a competition match in place since october where as the rugby was planned in the last couple of months.

my big concern is, since the forcast is a tad wet, if it really rains in terms of the pitch condition. With scrums and whatnot.
Am a bit suprised that NZF allowed and Otago Utd didn't tell Otago Rugby to stick it because as part of the stadium deal the council now own the ground and they would have had the booking. Its only a pre season rugby game.

hate to ramble, but just read the paper and found out that the football lines are in light green paint and will be painted white after the rugby. The rugby posts are not as tall as usual and they have six helpers to get them down. the pitch is in good condition so should last two matches. otagofan2010-01-20 21:29:27

Is a good idea. Yays for outside box thinking.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Note to Otago United: Tried it once, don't do it again.
Number of reasons:
* Crowd: Yes there were some new faces that stuck around but the crowd was probably smaller than the regular crowd because of the different and inconvienent time (ie 2pm Sun vs 6pm Sat)
* Size of pitch: The pitch was maybe a little shorter but certainly much thinner meaning the play wasn't as expansive as in previous matches and less of a spectacle. (not complaining with the result it produced)
*Location of pitch: In the past the ptich had been much closer to the main stand as there is usually no crowd over on the terrace side of the field for those who know Carisbrook. However due to rugby wanting to provide an even prespective to both sides. As well as this the field was slighty longer due to dead ball areas. Becuase of the oval nature of carisbrook this meant the pitch had to be more centred. As such some of the atmosphere was lost and I personally felt a tad more seperate form the match.
No complaints with the result though.
