Bit of a conundrum I do have on Sunday.

Much as I enjoy watching White-huckery getting their beans, I'm not sure that I wan't the fruitpickers to win on Sunday.

If White-huckery lose, NZ football will miss out on a pay day, and now that they've lost the sponsorship of the NZFC, that's going to come in really handy.

The NZFC is in deep sh*te and I'd hate to lose two clubs in one year.

So we might have to get out there and show them how to make noise.

They're predicting the orchards will be empty and the stands full, so the White-huckery mob will need all the help they can get.

Agree mate, need to get behind WU regardess of who you normally support for the good of football in NZ.

Also another chance to watch football for AKLers as there are no Knights games to go to now.

Besides, based on whats at stake should be easily as entertaining as the NZFC final.

I'd encourage all AKLders (and others nearby) to get along to the game. The benefits to the game nationally (pay-day prize money) are worth putting the effort in. phil_style2007-04-26 11:40:05

After what happened at the u20`s game versus Fiji in january they better have some decent security organised. A competent referee and assistants would also be useful.

I was there at the under-20 final. The intimidation at the end was a disgrace, and one of the reasons I will be backing the Kiwi team, even though it is the White Sh*tes.

Can you imagine the scene if it had been Auckland City in the final. How would the fruit pickers have reacted to the provocation from the City supporters Blue Bloc. It might not have been pretty.

I just hate Waitakere far too much to say I'd support them. If they win, then the bonus is the monetary split going to the other 7 NZFC franchises (last season it was around $58,000 each). I'll be there taking photos. Will watch and see where the action is most likely and head for that end.
If Ba win, I'll still have a wry smile on my face. Sure losing the money will hurt but NZ Soccer has always struggled for funds so it's not like the end of the world.
Yeah I'm not sitting on the fence. Go Ba. If it was anyone of the other 7 franchises then I'd be right behind them. I hate Waitakere more than Ipswich Town.

Yes I suppose your right and I'm taking a couple of budding photographers on a field excercise - although one of them has already shot the Blackburn v Middlesbrough premier league match on 30 December 06.
Should Ba score I might try getting a shot of Uncle Rex. I hate that side so much that I won't even go and watch Waikato FC play up there. I won't pay money to see that side.
Come to think of it I don't even go to watch the club I founded these days following the appointment of Roger as coach. We do not see eye to eye. Hence you won't see me at Hamilton Wanderers either (plus the fact they owe me $$ for a team photo wo years ago....)

In my case I set up Waikato FC and before Wilkinson headed up to take the ACFC job he said some things that reflected poorly on me and some of my friends that helped me set up the franchise in the first place. I walked out of the Melville United clubrooms after hearing his opinions. Soon afterwards he got sacked by ACFC and hello, he is banging on the door of Waikato FC looking for a job.
Well you know the story he got the job and made not one ounce of difference to the side following Dave Edmondson leaving. I decided then and then that I was not going to be involved in anything that Roger Wilkinson was involved in. I didn't go to WFC games once he got the job and I won't go to Wanderers NPL games as he is involved there too. Wanderers also never paid me for a photo job either and I wonder how many of you would feel any different.
I now support Auckland City as my local NZFC side and Manawatu as my second team. Once Roger leaves Waikato FC I will go back to supporting them but I'm not going to be f**ked around by people like him. It's got nothing to do with NZS. Conseqently I'm happy when Waikato FC and Wanderers lose.

City are my team. Some of my favourite players from the Kingz ended up there and since half the Bloc are there too, it feels like home. I really look forward to the games, and the people in the clubhouse afterwards have been really welcoming. It's the best football club in New Zealand bar none IMO. And the atmosphere is the best in NZ by a country mile.
I think Waitakere eptomise everything that is wrong with NZ football. Supporters who just sit there and whinge, not to mention the dipsticks who run the club. There is no passion there, no heart, and certainly nothing that would bring true football fans out to watch and follow a team. They are park footballers playing for a trophy, not a team which represents the hopes and dreams of a community.
Nevertheless NZ football is relying on them, as in a way, is Oceania. They won't beat the Japanese club, but they won't concede 10 goals like the Fijians will if they go through.

You are spot on about Auckland City / Central United. They have the environment pretty spot on. I can go into the clubrooms and instantly feel that I am in a proper football club. The people are good people and they deserve all the success they have had through the winter and summer.
And yes, spot on about Waitak as well. The last time I went into their clubrooms (first NZFC semi final v Waikato) it felt odd to say the least. I got some verbal abuse from their team manager who was particularly full of himself when they were 4-1 up. They seem to have some sort of self importance and they abused volunteers at the Waikato FC gate in the first season as well. They do have some good people there too but also some others who are only in it for themselves. Simon Eaddy is really the only player I would bother talking to. Uncle Rex spouts on about them being representative of the 12 founding club members etc but with that many clubs involved you would think they would attract a large following. I'm sorry but there is no way in hell I can support this side even when we are talking the big money. There are things more important to me than that. Being treated right for a start.
Go Ba!

I've got an OFC media pass to take pix so not paying any dough myself, although it will cost the petrol money divided by three others from Hamilton.

I'm not trying to put people off going but making my feelings felt about Ytak known because they need to sort out their own attitude.

No reason why they can't win against Ba, but it will need a good effort to overhaul the Fijians. They should have amazing support at Mt Smart - and that has to count for something.

I'm hoping to get a few good shots of the opposition.

According to Dewhurst this morning 3000 pre sales. Maybe a crowd of 5000 is possible? How do we get Fijians and other minorities interested in supporting football in this country? Seems to be an issue in N.Z.

That's fairly simple.  Get one of their crowd into a regular team.
When Leilei Gao arrived, North Harbour added a layer of soy sauce and rice and yummy they were too!

It's more than getting one of them into your team. I suspect that one day Uni Mt Wellington will become one of the wealthiest clubs in the country. Sure they have pulled out of the Northern League but they have aligned themselves with the ehtnic communities and when they get the Fijians etc playing and regularly using the facilities at Bill McKinlay, they'll get crowds which bring dollars. All those corner dairy owners are also potential sponsors too. I believe clubs need to set up an ethnic division within their incorporated societies and let them play under the club umbrella but perhaps amongst themselves then as a trust is built, friendships made, a relationship cemented, then you start to integrate them into the rest of the club structure. Some clubs have tried it but most are unsuccessful. We dont understand their culture and they don't understand ours. Once we do, I'm sure the immigrants will become more accepted and then we wll see the talented ones confident enough to mix with Kiwi's in a normal social setting.
I'm of the belief that once we can fully integrate with the ethnic communities within the game we will see more of them becoming All Whites and a changing of the style of football we play.
It's years down the track though and we are just going to have to accept that the current All Whites  as players are not really going to develop much more. Its the 17 year olds of now that are the future. Once we get those kids that have got technically proficient set of skills and first class coaching (something we are deficient in now), we will start to see some success. Perhaps its akin to the "white men can't jump" theory in basketball. White men can jump but you look at the NBA and it's not dominated by white dudes!
In 30 years time our All Whites might be like the All Blacks -  most of whom I can't pronounce their names. Rugby in NZ has plundered all the island talent they want. We've got immigrants here already with football in their blood. Time is ripe to sort our sh%t out and harness what we have.
Hmm, I don't know if I undertood fully what I wrote. Might go have a coffee, come back and read it again....my brain hurts now.

I like those thoughts Kiwi Canary. We will be a much better country and a better footballing nation when these people feel comfortable enough to fully participate in football at all levels in this country.

Put another way, I attended the NZ Ethnic Football Festival at Waikato University back in January or early Feb (can't remember) but Waikato FC were playing Canterbury at Waikato Stadium in front of 150 people and 4000 people were at the ethnic festival enjoying the colour, culture and food - not to mention the football.
Had someone with a bit of nouse thought about it, they could have looked to play the enthic final between Somalia and the Solomon Islands prior to the NZFC game. They could have charged half price ($5) and probably hauled in at least $10k on the gate. Then you donate half of it the to Ethnic football organisers and all of a sudden you have started a relationship between the cultures. The game needs the immigrants and the game needs money. It's the only way forward.
It's just plain to me that there are very few of us with  any foresight.

"It would be a massive boost to the game in West Auckland and in the rest of New Zealand. I'd like to think that most neutrals will be behind us because it looks like our supporters will be outnumbered by Ba supporters." - Steve Cain.

hmmmmmmmm......... no. I'd rather lose the $58,000 cut to ACFC than see your toothless mugs smiling while you gloat about going to Tokyo. No chance of any support from me. Does anyone know what Ba are like? any key players?

I think one of their goalscorers in the 1st leg is their star player. According to my Fijian mate whom i'm going to the game with on Sunday.

Three for me, and two for them.

I concede the money is good for the franchises but you just know that should Waitakere win, the gloating and carry-on about who's the greatest will be just unbearable. Auckland City have been pretty good about there success. The actual club representatives are very down-to-earth and almost humble with the amount of success they have had in the last three years.
I get the impression that when Waitak eventually beats Auckland City, Terry Maddaford will write a huge essay about it and Andrew Dewhurst will go on and on about it on his soccer radio show.
Humble isn't a word in the Waitakere dictionary. The money will certainly be welcome in Fiji just as it will be here. Steve Cain is pushigjn sh*t uphill if he thinks I'll be cheering for them.
Go Ba!

I'm still going along.

Oceania is on shakey enough ground with the Septic Bladder looking for any excuse to dump us. If Ba get through they will lose by a cricket score in Japan, at least White-Huck will keep our place warm until we get there next year. They'll get beaten 5-0 but we can live with that, just.

It's gonna be tough, but I'll just pretend it's the mighty Swans out there.

It's not just the money, it's the place in the CWC that's at stake here.

PS Norwich me boy, I agree with most of what you say re, the immigrant community. But that is NZ football all the way through, it's a big part of the prejudice against Central/Auckland and all the way through the sport - rugby heads have always scorned football for being a Pommy game for girls.
It's endemic, in football, in the media and in the nation at large.
Think of how many Chinese are in Auckland, how many do we see at football games - and they are mad on the sport.
NZFC need to start to get out and shake a few hands to get these people involved - they just want a chance to belong and it would not take a whole hell of a lot.

Blatter isn't looking to dump us. Don't believe all the bullsh&t Terry writes in the Herald.
What is going to happen is that FIFA will be injecting a lot more money into the Confederation.
Currently OFC are also lobbying various governments around the region for some support as well.
It looks likely that they could move head office to Tahiti as the French are going to put there hand out. OFC brings a lot of $$ into New Zealand and already they have been down to Wellers to talk to Mr Helen Clark about what they can do to support OFC if they continue to stay based in New Zealand. Tax incentives are what OFC are wanting. The only thing that will be happening is that Ba or Ytak will play the top Japanese side to make the tournament proper. Neither is likely to beat the Japanese side although in football anything can happen as we all know.
If there is a big crowd there I'll probably focus on taking pix of the crowd and Ba players. I'm not really interested in photographing Waitakere United, that's for sure.
So will be looking for some Fijian poon;-p

Daikiwi, you are right that people at the highest level need to be getting out into the communities and doing the PR. Trouble is you get guys like Uncle Rex who upset the Japanese dignitaries at the NZFC grand final. When you hear about this happening it's no wonder we just go round and round in circles. There are very few clubs/franchises capable of doing the right things.

Waikato Fc can't even look after their own Island imports and it was little old Ngaruawahia United that ended up sorting out a young lad who was at the franchise and wasn't getting a cent? Promised win bonuses but of course Roger couldn't get them to win could he.

Gonna take a major change in most peoples thinking before we make progress.

hey guys, i understand that club loyalty runs strong amoungst all of us and it's great to see so much passion for who we support, but let's get to the game to support waitak, yes danny hay and all.

they are representing nz as far as i'm concerned.  our game needs the money, the representation and we need big crowds.

I would also recommend that everyone send emails and letters to the usual press outlets to try and get some journalists there. From what some soucrs are saying there could be a fair few thousand people turning up, with big support expected form theauckland Fijian community too. It'd be nice to see some NZ football footage with a big crowd for once on the news.
