If we turned down local players and got imports for performances like that, why the fudge did we not just get local players?

Disappointing to see.

I totally agree. I’ve been going down for a few years now and this is the worst I’ve seen. Why is there no relationship with Suburbs? They did really well over the last couple of years in the South Island League and there are hardly any, if any of these players involved??

There are plenty of decent local boys, including the British/Irish guys that are better than what has been on display this year.
What happens next year when all these new ones disappear are the local boys going to want to be involved then? I very much doubt it.
There seems to be no plan for this team at all??

We’ve worked so hard in this area for National League football but it seems we don’t know how to run it?? And if we don’t get it right soon it’ll be gone for ever.

Is it true that many of the guys from outside the region were promised work and have received very little, if any?

Talking to a Nelson Suburbs supporter tonight - he aint happy with their selection policy.

I was at the game yesterday and they were given an absolute run around by TWY.

Possession stats in the first half alone must have been close to 70/30 if not higher for TWY.

Some of the comments I heard before the game were interesting. But that all changed when they were 3 down after 30 minutes and had barely touched the ball.

I've seen a lot of NYL games over the last 3 or 4 years and I'm not sure getting rid of it is the answer. But if that's the best Tasman can produce I can see the argument for sending the kids back to their clubs to develop rather than have the expense of flying them around the country.

Agreed. We were well off. I watched us last year against Hawkes Bay, a side that we should be competing against, and they were younger than our lads and played with far more technical ability.
I guess you have to look at what has been in place over the last decade and how ineffective it’s been.

Two of the TWY starters are 16, three are 18, the rest are all 17 and although they all come from different teams at Wests they have all being playing the same way for years.

Your second point is on the money. You can't make good players in five minutes which sadly too many people try to do.

But it works both ways. Some Nelson Suburbs players indicated they did not want to play. The main ones to miss out were imports, but of course you could make a case that they are better than the imports they did end up signing. Aside from Jess Ibrom the coaching staff is well represented by Nelson coaches like Davor Tavich, John Slotemaker and Peter Simonsen.

It just seems weird that with some success through the winter there is almost no representation let alone a relationship. This can’t be good for the long term.

Tasman whipped 11-0 in the Youth League yesterday afternoon by Auckland City.

Going off a lot of the comments on here, don't know if this was this entirely unexpected, or just an exceptional performance from Auckland...

Premiership game between the two sides kicks off in about 45 minutes. Would be fantastic if ya's could get up two weeks in a row to disrupt a top side. Big ask in Auckland though.

Stay classy Tasman! Picking up points for minor administrative errors since ages ago!

Perhaps your Youth team should be doing some more detective work on opposition team sheets? Who knows, maybe you could overturn 0-11 into a 3-0 win.

Think Tasman regretting not signing McKenzie when they had the chance, see he scored at the weekend just to rub salt in the wound.

"The club’s (Southern United) national football premiership team is facing losing the points from its season opening 4-0 win over Tasman United.

It is believed Tasman protested about the result, saying Southern fielded ineligible players, Cameron McKenzie and Cody Brook. Both players had entered the game late as substitute players, McKenzie’s injection triggering the controversy."

McKenzie had two week trial with Tasman then waited another week and a half to be told we don't have a place for you, So the lad gets a contract with Southern and Tasman spit the dummy. pretty poor in my view.

Its obviously a dick move, but its also really the only sensible move in this scenario. Its the top NZ league, with relegation recently introduced. Every 3 points matters.

Only blame here is on Southern's administrative person/people - can't get sharkty at Tasman for enforcing the rules.

Hoepfully NZF see sense and don't punish Southern too harshly.

Can't believe the negative sentiment towards Tasman.  They didn't make the rules.  Southern have admitted the breach.  Tasman didnt set the penality.

I wonder when Tasman knew?

Did they look before the game and not say anything?

Did they look after the game on the chance they could gain 3 points?

And it's not the first time Tasman have been involved in something like this.

Southern shouldn't have made the mistake. They are the ones who created the situation.

It's just an interesting question to ask as to when Tasman knew. Simply interested in figuring out how they go about their game day prep. Do they make that sort of check a deliberate part of their game day?

From what has been published it doesn't look like Southern were trying to pull a fast one and play players they shouldn't.

I agree they weren't trying to pull a fast one.

However, they have some glaring holes in their administration that just cost them three points.  Shame really because I think Southern is fast becoming everyone's 2nd favorite team.  They are mine.

I think a similar thing happened to HBU in 2011 and it cost them a playoff spot?

At the top level in the country, you have to make sure you get things right,  take responisibility , and not blambe others.

I think this just shows how poor Comet is at the end of the day. It wasn't good enough to handle registering players for the teams and then being used for the teams to take those registered players and declare them as the playing squad. So NZF added more admin by adding in a spreadsheet teams had to use.

Then to add incompetence to bad luck, the person who does the spreadsheet for Southern, had a bereavement and was away so someone else handled it. Its not Tasman's fault and they are allow to put in a complaint even if the players didn't have much affect on the actual result and while it is Southerns mistake, it's very unlucky and comes back to a poor system in place from NZF.

How many people complaining about Comet being the issue actually get in and use Comet for their clubs?

As far as I am aware - at a very high level this is breakdown of the issue

Players are registered in Comet to be eligible to play in the competition and are put into a catalogue for the team they are playing for (there are some other requirements like signed agreements, having done a Drugfree and awareness of gambling courses).  From there the teams can select their 16 players for their game close to the time of the game by loading starters and subs - however...

NZF want for media purposes (I'm guessing) a list from which the match day 16 will be selected each week (a couple of days before the game).  Comet is not really built for that so this is done in an excel spreadsheet and sent to NZF.

If a player is not on the extended squad list and then is selected in the match day 16 I think that is where issues arise.

This is not a registration issue but a process issue - and as far as I'm aware a pretty normal one across football.

And I go back to NZF and Comet. I've used the system, I wonder how NZF brought a new system and couldn't incorporate this process into it when it has all the other functions. Instead we have more bureaucracy by adding in a spreadsheet. That takes it back to the selecting of Comet as a suitable system.

Fxsake. Excel spreadsheets....really ?

It would blow you away if I told you what I've seen on Excel spreadsheets (sent to me from within the NZ football community) in the last 12 months.

Yes. And they have to be faxed in in triplicate two days before the game, unless you have a carrier pigeon, in which case that is the preferred method of communication because of its efficiency.

because there is one competition (maybe two, not sure what the Women's National League regulations are about this area) you re-design a system that every other team and club uses?  not sure that's the most efficient way of spending development dollars.

all of the teams most of the time are using the dual system perfectly fine - It might be a bit painful (I'm not arguing that) but it seems the errors are few and far between.

Both Liverpool and Real Madrid have made player eligibility errors in the last 12 months so it can happen to anyone.

I feel sorry for Southern - I do and I hope there is a review of the process from NZF to see if there is a better way.

However the hate for Tasman is stupid and people who are doing that are entirely missing the point.
