Western Springs 0-3 Auckland City FC.

The scoreline suggests an easy with for the Navy Blues but not really it was a pretty end to end competitive game Springs were wasteful in front of goal and City took theirs.

Angus Kilkolly opening the scoring just after the half hour mark with Kieran Richards heading home not long after sending City 2-0 up at the break.

Springs had a better second half but really didn't test Nathan Garrow all that much before Dylan Manickum made it 3-0 in the closing stages of second half stoppage time.

Thought the new players did well for them Michal Doudera looked good as well as Kieran Richards and Nathan Rostron who all started. Thomas Golding made an apperance off the bench in the second half.

Is there no way to see lineups, substitutions, goal scorers anymore? Or just not ready in time for the start of the season?

Basically you have to have the game be streamed on fifa + or failing that, use a range of apps and social media to be able to piece together lineups/goalscorers/substitutions in real time - Instagram/Twitter/Sofascore etc.

Some clubs are also far better than others at getting information out to the public.

Tribe.

Three for me, and two for them.

Birko scored in the (not quite) last minute of the first half. Commentary is about 3 seconds ahead of the gameplay so there was a little spoiler lol

So ACFC is 0 points from 2. Is it me or the OFC pro league could kill club football in NZ...

I think you're jumping the gun there. Auckland played the best Northern clubs right off the bat and all of them having something big to play for in the form of the 2027 National League.

Also personally I'm not a fan of the mentality that "The best club is struggling, must mean club football is dead"

Valley FC til I die?

Northern League has more matches, so they take advantage of the long weekend to get 2 rounds in. Mainland clubs somewhat similarly are playing English Cup tomorrow I believe

Auckland United 1 - 0 Auckland City

That now makes three losses in a row for City. On one hand they're losing to strong competition and it's very small scorelines, but on the other hand they're consistantly losing to strong competition. Admitedly it was a bad mistake that led to AKU goal that most likely won't happen again but still, they better hope they can pick up strong reinforcements at the end of the OFCPL season or they're gonna be in trouble

sorry. 3 points from 12 isn't great given the status. thats why I think if you dive deeper, the OFC league could be bad for NZ football.

Bad for ACFC, yes that’s likely.

But giving another 30+ Kiwis a crack at pro football, some of whom will be discovered and go onto higher levels. That’s nothing but good news for the code overall

Wouldn't that make the A-League bad for NZ football too? If your gripe is that the best players are being taken by the big pro clubs then what makes Auckland or the Nix any different?

Apparently flares from Auckland FC fans where thrown on the pitch and near Birkenhead keeper, causing a delay on the weekend. Club has come out about it. Fans comments on Facebook and Reddit mostly seem to be against the few supporters who let them off.

I dunno, what I'm seeing on Reddit is a lot of "harden up, this is what real fandom looks like, real players appreciate having flares set off right behind them"

You know, the worst parts of AFC fandom

On instagram it's just people saying "Game's gone" as if the ultra groups they're pretending to be are allowed to chuck flares at players

Yeah comments seem to have turned more into #woke and games gone! Does seem to be some infighting of what the Port does and how its run.

Crack up to see people saying City losing a few games means the league has been ruined.
Plenty of class around the matches this week and the City United game was a good watch. Probably a smaller crowd than would usually turn out for this fixture.
ACFC are moaning and groaning about losing the guaranteed $$ from CWC - will be interesting to see how any money that the o-league team gets ends up being distributed.

I'm not really saying that, it's more me saying that ACFC has declined and will hamper the league. If you are an 17yo prospect or 25 yo starter for most teams and offered a contract at every northern league team, there is no main benefit from signing with ACFC as after winning the NL in 2027 happens, then what...

A 17yo prospect will get more game time elsewhere and a 25yo starter may decide on whatever is closer.

Genuinely why is this a problem? Yeah it could be bad if you Auckland City specifically but I seriously doubt the rest of New Zealand are gonna shed tears over ACFC having less pull to hog the best players

Wait are you referring to the lack of the CWC cash injection? Lead with that next time.

Also let's be so fr we're missing like one cycle before the league goes under max, your theory about the OFCPL killing the national league only works if you assume they'll stick around long-term. I love the league personally but come on

Long time reader, first time poster, and yeah, I’m part of Birko.
Honestly, a lot of the chat on that reddit post and elsewhere is missing the point, and I don’t think it’s really landing with the Port
This is Northern League footy. It’s amateur. It’s not an FA Cup final.
The issue wasn’t just “a flare”. It was that it got thrown onto the pitch, near a player. Twice. That’s where it crosses a line. They only had to look around and see we were playing on pitch 3 as our number 1 & 2 are currently under maintenance to realise that throwing a flare on the field and ruining the grass would leave us with just one field as well. They just didn't care about the players or our facilities.
And if “The Port” reckon throwing flares onto the field, covering the pitch and goals in streamers, and yelling “just let him die” at a player getting medical treatment is what good support looks like… that’s pretty cooked.
We’ve seen what good atmosphere looks like. Waiheke came over for a Chatham Cup game last year and brought great energy - singing, backing their team the whole time, even after a heavy loss and into the clubrooms after the match as well. They had flares, sure, but kept them in hand and didn’t impact the game. Big difference. Still passionate, still loud, but respectful. We were genuinely stoked to have them there.
The Port could take a bit from that.

ROUND 6 RESULTS
Tauranga City 0 vs 0 Auckland City
Bay Olympic 0 vs 1 (M. Zabarauskus) East Coast Bays
Melville United 0 vs 2 (D. Botica, S. Philip) Birkenhead United
Western Springs 2 (B. Wallace x2) vs 0 Auckland United
Fencibles 3 (J. Boon, K. Nicol, R. Clarke) vs 2 (J. Elder, S. Kane) Auckland FC Reserves
Manukau United 0 vs 3 (N. Karunaratne, J. Mechell, H. Echague) Eastern Suburbs

Looking like the title will primarily be contended for by Birko, ECB and Fencibles!

Also might as well put it out there but that's now more dropped points for City who are now sitting with a 2-1-3 record. Perhaps the game next week against Fencibles will let us know whether or not they'll be serious contenders for the title this year.
