What they fail to say in the preview is that Waikato must travel by bus to Napier on Sunday, rather than fly, as they have in previous years.

So despite coughing up the same entry fee, Waikato have had their arrangements significantly downgraded.

Will this apply across the board, or will there be an uneven playing field? Either way, it's further sign of a league which is falling to pieces.

Players being asked to leave hamilton very early and not get back till about midnight, not receive any compensation, will think twice about making themsleves availkable for such a league.  (add another 90 minutes for Auckland-based players.)

Sorry Bruce but dont have much sympathy with a club that 1 month before the start of a season
along with wellington claims they cant play a  21 game season as for a level playing field
i know which ground i'd rather watch a game at and it aint Centennial Park

Do you know what nemesis means

it's not the club you have to feel sympathy for, it is the players, and by extension, the integrity of the competitiion, and the future of the league itself.

if a team pays a $65,000 entry fee - no small amount -- you might well expect details such as travel arrangements are sorted equitably. Otherwise clubs might as well make their own arrangements and do away with a league manager.

Iif the majority of clubs really favoured a 21-team league, i am sure they would have had one. A lot of outfits are facing a few economic realities at present. The 14-game league has just deferred the league's collapse until next summer.

Incidentally, the napier flight is an interestign one. it goes somethgin like this: the plane can take 18 people in, but becuase of the aviation specs, can sometimes only take 17 out, with due to weight restrictions for the elevation required to get out of the place.

Just think  Bruce, only 13 games to go. If memory serves me rite, I can remember seeing you in a old waikato video trip to Napier, cant remember you requesting a plane to go to napier. Are we all getting a bit cranky in our old age . Enjoy the bus ride

Forgive me for being a little slow on the uptake, but I don't live in NZ anymore so have limited knowledge about the workings of the NZFC.

If I've got this correct, clubs don't even arrange their own travel to away games? That is an extremely bizarre situation! Clubs should make their own arranagements as each manager will have a different idea on pre-game preparation. I find it staggering.

The NZFC, from what I can gather, needs a HUGE overhaul after this ever so short season is over.

Bruce didn't request a ride. He was just talking about the fairness of it all.

The league manager does f**k all anyway..

I ddn't realise that either, BUT would assume its the old 'Bulk Purchase' theory where by one guy booking everything for everyone will result in a saving of $$$, and god knows there's very little of those about in NZ footy.
And Bruce, I applaud a trip to an away game in a minibus or the likes...it is so much better for team bonding than a flight-especially the return trip.Considering the plight of your clubs been throug recently, I suggest that what I'm picking as an already strong team spirit will further be enhanced by the time they arrive here at the Island tomorrow.
BTW come and say 'Hello' , you'll notice us

Hello, footy analist. Ah the memories. Yes, in 1996 i compiled my own Gonzo video of Waikato United's last trip in the old national league.

But in those days the clubs made their own arrangements (rather than cough up $65,000). Sometimes they would go by car and stay the night before at the Tamatea Motor Inn. Basically it was their call, which did reduce the complaints.

Incidentally, for those wanting a Waikato-Napier trip down memory lane, the following is a link to the Cordwainer Bull article covering Waikato United's final outing, April 28, 1996, which was first published in the fanzine, Bullsheet. August 1996.. I seem to recall it won an award, back in the day.
