Waitakere 11 8 2 1 24 8 16 26 Auckland 12 7 0 5 22 15 7 21 Hawke's Bay 12 6 1 5 22 16 6 19 Waikato 12 6 1 5 18 17 1 19 Manawatu 11 6 0 5 19 17 2 18 Wellington 12 5 2 5 21 26 -5 17 Otago 12 2 2 8 14 27 -13 8 Canterbury 12 2 2 8 10 24 -14 8
I'm having a stab at who might make the top 4 now that the business end is here. I must say its a jolly hard task with round 13 having been played before round 12, round 12 being half completed, and a catch up game still to be played from round 6. Looking at the table I reckon the top 3 are done and dusted, with Auckland and HB playing Manawatu away and Otago at home respectively and  HB also playing Ctby away. So 4th spot is down to TW, Manawatu and Waikato. TW have Wakato and Ctby at home so should (my heart says) go to 23. Waikato have 2 games away against TW and Manawatu and I'm picking them to win one so will go to 22. Manawatu have 3 homes games against Ak, Waikato and Waitakere (latter is the round 6 catch up game) and will lose them all so stay on 18. That scenario will see TW grab 4th. So the key game is TW v Waikato on 1st March. Winner will take 4th - unless Manawatu pull off an upset against Waitak or AK and beat Waikato.

I thought they had made it top 5 this year as a sop for the missing third round or was that not confirmed ?

I thought it was top 4 but there's nothing on the NZFC website that tells me anything about the playoffs at all. I'll stick with a top 4 until proved otherwise. But, a further trawl through the draw highlighted an error in my scenario! Drama! HB's other game is against Waitak at home, they could lose and therefore only go to 22 so are by no means safe in the top 4. Boo's to HB though, their website should list all their games and make it easy for sad f*cks like me.  Anyway, it's thrilling stuff at the moment.

well HBU still cant manage to win at home bit for the opening round win against waikato, so Im not holding my breath for too much against waitak.
In saying that, with the way the NZFC has gone this season nothing would surprise me

Waikato garenteed 6pts from last two games and 2nd place

Wrong.

Manawatu win today puts them on 21, 4 points clear of Yellow Fever Tee Dubs with the same number of matches to play.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

so then, back to the run in. Round 13 complete with half of round 12 this weekend and round 14 still to come. Don't ask me how that happened but anyway, TW v Waikato in the final round is still the vital game for both, and the weekend win for Manawatu probably means they only need a point against Ak or Waitak to go through. HB have Otago at home and most likely go to 22, but TW will be 3rd or 4th qualifier on 23 if they win both (other game is Ctby this weekend). Waikato will be steamed up for it though as a win for them gives them 22 points, puts TW out of it and gives them a fighting chance on GD if Manawatu lose one of their games by a couple or so. Well done rightstr, superb trainspotting yet again, all bases covered  I hope.

If ACFC and Waitak beat Manawatu
If HBU beat Otago
If TW beat Canty
These results are likely.

A snap shot of how the table would look if those results went as stated with just the TW Waikato game to go for the 2nd - 6th positions ignoring goal difference

2 Auckland        13  8  0  5  24
3 Hawkes Bay   14  7  1  6  22
4 Manawatu      14  7  0  7  21
5 Wellington      13  6  2  5  20
6 Waikato          13  6  1  6  19

TW Waikato result could decide the fate of 3 teams and positions 4-5-6.

Then again its a few ifs...

That looks about right although Manawatu could snatch a point or even 3 in the last two games which will mean Hawkes Bay would be the unlucky one.

Auckland Vs Canterbury         (Likely an Auckland win)
Hawkes Bay Vs Otago            (Likely a Hawkes Bay win)
Manawatu vs Waitakere        (Likely a Waitakere win)
Wellington vs Waikato           ??????

Still think that the Wellington vs Waikato is the one that decides the fate of Wellington, Manawatu and Waikato (who are gone on GD unless Manawatu lose by two and Waikato win by 2)

I reckon Manawatu could draw, so will go to 23, Auckland will win as will HB. So TW must beat Waikato, no doubt about that. A draw is only good if HB don't win, but what chance Otago snatching a point up there? Waikato will be going all out as they must win by a few to get ahead of HB on GD so it should be a good open game.
