Football comes back to free-to-air TV in NZ

New Zealand football fans will be able to see top class games on free to-air television for the first time in over a decade from next month!!

Stratos and Triangle Television and the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) have signed a deal that will see a variety of football games from New Zealand, the Pacific and around the world, plus documentaries and some vintage games screened on Stratos and Triangle via its channels on Sky Digital 89, Freeview 21 and Telstra Clear cable.

Tai Nicholas, OFCs general secretary, says the joint venture will bring back quality football action and news to Free to Air.

OFC statistics show that more than half a million players are involved in its premier O-League from New Zealand, New Caledonia, Tahiti, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Fiji and Vanuatu. With the largest football playing population from youngsters to seniors, New Zealand has the greatest potential to grow its television audiences.

Given that football is regarded as the World Game, I think it is highly appropriate our content will broadcast on Stratos & Triangle TV the channels that specialises in culturally diverse programming from all corners of the globe, Mr Nicholas says.

New Zealand is a multi-cultural country and Stratos and Triangle are perfectly position to leverage the passion of our various immigrant football fans from Africa, South America, the Middle East and closer to home the Pacific Islands.

Defending champions Auckland City FC will get their 2010 O-League campaign underway at home this Saturday when they meet Tahitis AS Manu Ura. A full replay of the match at Kiwitea Street will be screened on Triangle at 10pm Saturday with a second replay airing at 12pm on Stratos the following day.

For anybody in the Auckland area who wants to receive Freeview (iincluding Stratos/Triangle and SBS (check it out www.sbs.com.au/schedule)) I can put you in touch with a guy who can do the whole install for around $500. No fees after that.

P.M. me if you're interested.

ACFC put 5 passed AS Manu Ura today.
Last time they struggled to dominate the Tahitians until late in the match.

Interesting article, talking about Koprivcic debuting  for Auckland.  Who wants to point out he's been there before ?

Fairly scrappy game with some brutal challenges. New pitch a bit underdone and the rain obviously didn't help. Manu Ura looked hopelessly under prepared, treated it like a training drill and just tried to knock the ball around in little clusters. They struggled to cope with the physical size and strength of City, not helped by somw of the decisions from the ref. Camera work a bit dodgy as well, missed 2 of the goals.

Never caught it.  Midday Sunday I was out playing football (or on my way to it).  Hopefully the times become a bit more accessible.  That was the time on Stratos wasn't it ?

Yep. Don't get Triangle in ChCh, it was on there live I believe.
Stratos/Triangle seem to be one and the same but with slight programming variations
