Picking up on another thread
Diakiwi here: http://www.yellowfever.co.nz/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=756 said
the following: "There is a large football mad section of the
community out there but the NZFC and to be fair, the local clubs
themselves, have done precious little to make them welcome - I'm
writing of course about the immigrant communities."
I think YF is an opportunity to increase support for local
football (esp NZFC). Since the TW message boards seem to have died
I expect that alot of the supporter traffic has moved here. .
. Momentum worth maintaining IMO.
Definitely worth following up. Just think it will take time to get
these kids coming through as their families integrate into society
in general. have a few Afghani families in our neighbourhood who
are showing some resistance to adopting the kiwi way of life even
though they have been here a few years. this is only natural I
suppose as in this situation the people are refugees and not
necessarily here by choice. It's not usually the kids who are any
problem, just the parents as they struggle to adjust.
In the local area we have approx 20 odd Samali (spelling?) Boys who
turn up at a local school every sunday afternoon to play. The have
worn out the school ground. I beleive some play college football,
but if it like other migrant groups in the area the kids would love
to play but money is so tight they would not pay club subs.
