Well good and bad news

we benefitted from Mandi earlier in the season rolling around, now we're getting stung by the opposition doing it.

Nice theatrics by Rufer too for the free kick that got us Mandi's goal.

Pretty natural and fair to get annoyed when they do it, but should call our players out too. Rudan did say earlier in the season that he tells our players to make the most of contact to make sure ref takes action. A part of pretty much all contact sports I guess.

Theatrics? Got his standing foot completely cleaned out by Gallifuoco, was a clear cut foul and yellow.

I still want to know who made the call for the second yellow. The HAL twitter account said it was VAR but they can't for a yellow and you'd think he would have been called over. I doubt either the ref or AR saw it because either reacts to the contact and only discuss once Roy kicks  it out
I reckon the AR and Ref have just guessed there has been contact.

It was a foul and deserved yellow, studs up and dangerous, but one of the slow-mo replays shows there's barely contact. The commentators wrongly said there was no contact, but looking at it again he does slightly touch him.

Re: Roy, also very annoying that the lino was right there and didn't even signal for a foul...

Have you got a replay to hand? That's not how I remember it but could be entirely wrong, I wasn't overly sober watching it.

I'd say VAR looked at it for a potential red, but deemed it a yellow. King looked pretty sure what had happened, he was gesturing the "swinging arm" motion to players after the incident.

So VAR can recommended a yellow? Can they recommend missed free kicks or throw ins?

I cant remember what came first Roys swinging elbow or him being taken out. As for Rufers histronics seems double standards run deep with us. WE hate it when the opposition does it but little is said about our players,at one point Rufer went down like he had been shot and barely moved when realised he wasnt getting anything he got up and ran to complain to the ref.

Again, if you see the replay, Rufer's heel got taken out by the studs up slide after the ball was gone, right where Rufer was holding.

On the A-League Show there was a discussion about it.  Both Bozza and the guest commentator (John Sorensen) said that they would not comment on the second yellow (decision looked fair for a yellow to both of them).  However, they all said the first yellow to Krishna was completely unwarranted. Which is a nice change from the FOX pundits for us.

I think he has to own that as a second yellow, he throws out an elbow and catches him.  First one was a nothing tackle and very typical of poor A League refereeing

I wanna say that the second yellow card was warranted with the actions he performed... HOWEVER there wasn't a call for the foul at all. The only reason play stopped was because Roy kicked the ball out. So how did they suddenly decide to give a foul and a yellow after that without VAR intervention?

Maybe VAR suggested a red, but the ref decided it only warranted a yellow? But how would he even know as he obviously didn't see the incident? Confused.

To be fair, blood was pissing out of his mouth and unless the bloke bit his own tongue; it's pretty obvious that there was contact.

That was my point. Don't think the ref called the foul initially nor did the linesman signal anything. Where does the yellow come from then?

I would imagine Roy's fate was sealed as soon as the ref saw blood. They hadn't seen it till play stopped but it is pretty clear evidence of contact

What about the initial contact from Llorente he was all over Krishna. He had both feet off the ground arm over and around Krishna's neck and chest from behind. Krishna should probably have just gone to ground but he continued being strong trying to play the ball.

I know what you're saying S.O.N. however drawing blood doesn't equal a foul being committed. It could have been accidental and unless the ref was in a good position to see, he should have taken the lino's opinion into consideration since he was less than a metre away.
Anyhow the decision has been made already

After conversing, the refs put together the knowledge of the incident they each had via a conversation, and came up with the correct outcome. That's not bad reffing, that's excellent teamwork.

Did he speak with the lino? I didn't see that personally but could have missed it.
And I don't think speaking with the VAR was appropriate in that instance

You definitely missed it, the referee and the AR very clearly conversed after the ball went out. Immediately after that conversation, they showed a yellow.

The VAR involvement was the normal checks that happen after every foul in the game inside the booth, and the VAR did not converse with the referees as they dealt with the incident on the pitch.

might be a dumb question but does his yellow card count get reset now that he has a one game ban i.e. can he get another 8 or does this just add 2 yellows on top?

This counts as 1 yellow to his tally, the second yellow isn't counted as it resulted in the red. There's no 'reset' that occurs though, the red card suspension is unrelated to yellow card suspensions. Hope this helps!

That red card really hurt Krishna's chances for the Alex Tobin, he didn't pick up any points vs WSW because of it & then missed the Jets game. Hopefully he can get back into the race over the next few weeks.

Dear Roy,

Stay with us, money will be great, the next coach will be a good one. WelNix will take care of you. We can win a title, No, YOU can win the title for us, 100%. Yes it is tempting to try something new, try hope things get even better than last Sunday, but you are young and have the rest of your after football life to try out new things, real new things, not just another club in another city. Yes, other fans will cheer when you score, but only the Yellow Fever will love you like we do.

Warm regards,

number8

Ps: Would it help if we start a petition to name a street, park after you?

Yep, in Roy we now have a player that will (or at least should) attract others of similar quality.

As #8 says, Roy doesn't need to go anywhere else to taste success. He is building it, and they will come to him.
