Didn't Krishna say in his post that his wife is joining him (unlike here), and that she's maintained her Indian heritage much more closely than him so he's looking forward to them both experiencing it first-hand? Certainly didn't sound like she's horrified by the idea.

Besides, Kolkata has a sizeable Muslim population, I'm sure they'll be fine.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't actually read Krishna's insta post.

My grandma was born in Kolkata, coincidentally.

Did his wife never come to Wellington?

If that's the case I'm surprised we held on to him as long as we did.

They got married knowing the situation with her having a career in Fiji and him having a career in New Zealand. It's different than splitting up families who are living together or forcing someone to move to a culture that's foreign to them.

She'd come over occasionally, but she didn't live here.

Roy and I shared the same barber and have for years. I definitely saw his wife around quite a lot especially when Roy had time off. Obviously she didn't live here and had to travel to NZ.

Ah so they got married after he was living in NZ, that definitely makes way more sense because you already know how your relationship works with the distance.

I hope that's not questioining the stability of Judans maritial relationship?

Ricki did have a thing for a target man, so this doesn't surprise me.

There's got to be more gems in the South Pacific.  Love that shirt!

That works out at $844k in $NZ... Definitely not a bad pay day especially if that's his base only (eg will go over 1mil with bonuses)

What are the tax rates like over in India? Was talking to an ITK WSW fan and they  reckon the Aussie tax rates are causing issues with their recruitment, that is something we have an advantage over Aussie clubs (45% vs 33% top tax rate)

Top tax rate in india is 30% IIRC.

Interesting question. Roy's still a Fijian but he also has NZ residency.

So you are saying having Citizenship doesnt entitle you to be a "Kiwi"??

If Michael Fitzgerald is a Kiwi player even though he has Japanese citizenship, does NZ citizenship make the captain of Fiji a Kiwi player?

I didn't say that. Aotearoa is a nation of immigrants, anyone can be a kiwi.

Roy will probably enjoy playing at ATK under high profile Spanish manager Antonio Lopez Habas, returning for his second spell in charge.

Former Valencia and Celta Vigo manager in la Liga, Bolivia national team manager (two Copa Americas).

Won the ISL title with ATK in 2014

ATK are the Man City of the ISL, famous for splashing the cash.

Continue to benefit from their links to Atletico Madrid (founding part-owner) and Spanish football.

Last September their pre-season was spent in Spain playing local clubs and Fulham.

Habas takes over from former Man Utd legend Steve Coppell who has coached in India for several years.

Coppell took over last season from Robbie Keane (player-manager 2017-18 after taking over from sacked Teddy Sheringham partway through the season). Keane finished his playing career there (6 goals in 9 games)

Jose Molina, now Spanish FA Director of Football, is another former ATK manager (Spain international, Atletico Madrid, Deportivo goalkeeper, Villarreal manager). He won the 2016 ISL title.

Krishna has big shoes to fill in terms of import players (seven allowed on each roster).

He succeeds imports like Keane, Helder Postiga (71 caps Portugal striker, Porto, Spurs, la Liga sides, signed by ATK aged 32), Luis Garcia and Josemi (both members of Liverpool's 2005 Champions League winners), Lanzarote (Espanyol & Zaragoza striker), Sereno (Vitoria Guimaraes & Porto), Gavilan (Valencia & Getafe midfielder), Everton Santos (Brazilian striker ex Corinthians & Figueirense, Paris Saint-Germain), Borja (Real Madrid and Valladolid midfielder who juggled playing for ATK at the same time as playing for Valladolid and Eibar in la Liga)

Actually Borja's example shows how a player can successfully alternate playing in the short Indian IPL season with other leagues.

Krishna could even do that.

Aren't the 6 foreign spots actually obligatory (as opposed to allowed?) I remember reading a bit about the IPL when Del Piero moved there and IIRC you had to have a certain number of foreigners in the team

There's highlights on YouTube. I actually have subscribed to the Indian super league channel... Williams had a go disallowed for offside...
