"As a North Shore lad with a foot in both camps I am curious about the make up of an Auckland United exhitbition squad."
I'd like to expose our players to higher quality opponents.
Borrowing from the past we could send an Auckland United squad for a tour from current NZFC teams, and there are players from outside Waitak/Ak City that ought to be considered.
Who would you select?
Emblem and Hay at the back...

SQUAD FIRST

Goalkeepers: Eaddy and Nicholson - Tamati makes too many mistakes and Gillespie never plays

Defenders: Pritchard, Bazeley, Hay, Perry, Sigmund, Uhlmann and Sykes as neither side has a decent left back.

Midfielders: Allan Pearce, Coombes, Bale, Butler, Emblen, Seaman, Campbell, Little

Strikers: Young, Urlovic, Jordan, Menapi, Totori

Starting Lineup: 4-4-2 but could easily have a 3-5-2 or 4-3-3  or even the 3-4-3 of WU at the moment. It depends on opposition but if they were to play the Phoenix for the O-League.

Eaddy

Perry   Hay  Sigmund  Sykes

Pearce  Bale  Emblen   Little

Young Totori

That team would give anyone cause for concern. on the performance of the two Auckalnd City midfielders on the weekend they would struggle to play in a game that had to be a fight. Would love to see Totori running off a clever player like youngy. Emblen being the attacking player from the midfield would cause issues if he attacked crosses.

Actually that is a contest I would love to see.

Coaches: Milicich assisted by Tuaa - only because most of the players come from WU.

Marama, just out of interest, how many of that squad came up through the Auckland junior ranks?

I didnt know we could only pick players that have come through the Auckland junior ranks. Not that makes a difference, surely if we were to pick the best players we do so. Are we suggesting that the only players eligible to play for the auckalnd clubs are players brought up in Auckland. If that rule was applied in reverse a lot of players in other franchises wouldnt be playing either.

They'd be the football equivalent of Yorkshire CCC.

You poor confused lad, there is life south of the Bombay Hall. life must be utterly horrible when they play each other.

AllWhitebelievr, not as bad as going to work in London the morning after a Tottenham Chelsea derby and praying for a draw.
Still curious about a regional format that emerged some 30 years ago with teams like Otago United, an NPC styled provincial football tournament, I guess the NZFC is the club version of that.
