You taking the mick or serious? In what imaginable way (if horner is getting dropped from centre back) could they think about playing connor at right back before horner when he isnt a defender? Surely they would play horner right back and push connor up the field for attacking duties maybe on the left.. I just look at this team and it seems all wrong! Didnt smith play at right back for Caversham? Is Jackson on the outer now scoullar is back seems harsh after his goal in the last game. My team would be

Little

Smith Horner Falvey Prattley

Kelly Chisom Coburn

Burgess Scoullar Dugdale

Now that looks better to whats above me!

Any thoughts?

The squad that I named was not taking the mick , this was directly from a coaching staffs mouth , Conner rates himself as a up and down right back and has been training in that postion for the last two weeks , so there going to give him a shot seeing there is no Henderson this week . Smith for Horner , he just hasnt found the form of previous seasons so they want to try Smith , fear enough i guess , Jackson has an ankle injury so not sure if he will even make the bench ?

Im pretty close to the coaches on a personal level and this is what they want to try this week ??

Your thoughts ??

Looks to me as though the staff are looking at someone to blame there problems on and I dont think Horner should be the man pointed out he has properly been the pick of the defenders and seems harsh if he misses maybe the should have a look at the other players around him aswell before they start putting wide midfielders in the back 4 because thats not going to help anyone let alone the team! Ok if Jackons injured that make sense and I guess he may of struggled to hold his stop with Kelly and Scoullar coming into the picture again although that long throw is a weapon.

Dont get me wrong I do think connor has got something to offer but up the field and he did look lost against Manawatu when he came on late in the game.

Gosh im not sure..

connor rates himself at any postion!! he is not nzfc standard and if they do play him at right back it is a disaster waiting to happen and illustrates the coaching ability of otago united. Smith is far better equipt as is henderson

it baffles me that a guy like smith with nzfc experience and i thought did well last yr would be overlooked for right back and a winger put on in his position

There's somthing seriously wrong when he wont play someone that has just played a full season at right back at club in the same position in NZFC..Maybe he just likes a smaller quick right back im really not sure

Bit guttered as I won't be able to make the game this weekend...

Truth, can you post a full report.

Heard a rumour that the Germans are gone but haven't been able to confirm this.. I don't think Otago has had much success with imports...

I think there still in dunedin but havent got any game time and i wouldnt blame them if they returned bacsue who wants to train all week and then not make the traveling squad?? i wouldnt say they dont have much luck i would say Oatgo should try harder selecting the players they get! It would be better to develop a young dunedin player in the squad for the future than to have 2 germans doing nothing...I could be wrong about this tho

Can we clarify did connor actually play?
According to NZFC we played..

                    Little
Smith   Horner   Falvey   Pratlley
Kelly   Chisholm  Coburn  Gardner
          Dugdale    Jackson

or simalar with no scoullar as well as burgie and connor on the bench.

If the boys want to push on this season and try and make something of this season ie a respectable 6th we must win or draw this week.

Interesting to see that according to Rab Smith, John McLelland is looking to make a move back to these shores. He was pretty decent for Caversham from memory.

Terry Phelan seems to have done a really poor job down there.  Obviously Otago are operating in straighetened financial conditions and have some difficulties in attracting players but he's never been able to get them playing much football and the players that he has brought in from overseas have been really rubbish.  The results have consistently been poor so I'm not sure how he's managed to keep his job! james dean2009-01-16 03:39:58

I believe it has something to do with one side enforcing the terms of the contract. i.e. You've signed for 3 years, so you will stay for 3 years.

Long time no post's! sorry guys been awaway seeing the world but no doubt everyone has missed me..I don't think you will find brand has been dumped but quit Otago United after no being given what he felt a fair chance by Fleming and Phelan to the starting spot he worked so hard for during training for the past 2 to 3 months and now just wants to focus on getting fit and leading his once Famous Rosyn side to The SPL and South Island Championship the Two titles he felt they should have won last year before being beaten quite comfortably by Caversham in the end.

I say goodluck to the Otago Player of the year 08/09???

Any news on the team this weekend?I hear Tim Horner is getting married so is unavailable leaving only smith, falvey an prattley as the only reconised defenders  ?????

I agree Truth, I don't think Parkin will bother to be honest. The only reason I could see him signing for Otago would be to keep fit for the winter season because he wont play any. Sean Brand was terrible and it is a good thing he has chucked in the towel. He probably worked out he wasn't up to it (Otago Player of the Year unable to hack it in National League - thats saying something). By the way, my Sisters were devastated at the news of Horner tying the knot - is this true?

it is true that horner is getting married which may explain why coburn picked up a tactical 4th yellow and thus a suspension on the weekend as memory serves he did the same for Micheal abbots wedding. and i have not signed for otago but will be at tech training. would love to know who you are truth it is easy to comment behind a fake name

No sorry kennedy i was wrong so let you sister's no..I hear he's only attending a wedding it was just a we mix up,About time brand found out he's not upto and went back to roslyn where he belongs...I hope to see Otago gain some point and draw level/part canterbury this weekend any news on the squad???

As for my comments on Cam Parkin...I was only taking the mick see if he would bit so i could find out who he really was on Yellowfever..So thanks parca498 i actually do think you would be a quality signing for United on a squad that could do with some more depth. And fair comment you can say alot behind a name but see you at training in february!

You're accusing Andy Coburn of being smart enough to pick up a tactical yellow card so as to go to a wedding?

You are taking the piss a bit much there aren't you?

Hey come on there now boys.. Andy"Spartan Warrior"Coburn is a stalward of Otago Football playing over 75 games for the long struggling fanchise and is a man who wears his heart on his sleeve giving 110% everytime he steps on that field for the blue and gold of this province. So to imply that he would get a yellowcard to attend a wedding and leave his fellow team mates struggling is just out right disrespectful to the most capped Otago United/And one of the all time NZFC players.

Shame on you both.

It was excellent to see Coburn and Horner running sprints after training last night with specialist fitness trainer Ally Mccoist, that sort of committment goes along way.
