I do agree with the comments about it being a really good competitive season - and I hope it is. But then again I can't help thinking beyond the game day players as far as the winner goes- at the end of it the coaching team, the player depth and the club structure will cause the triumph in my opinion. And so I back Cavvy Cavyy and Cavvy again - who else has won it in the past dozen or so years? My beloved Rosyln when I played for them did it just the once even though we were close a few times, and then Tech were just great last year and were deserved champions. But when did Mosgiel last win it? I can't even recall. There won't be a new winner. If it's not Cavvy it will be Tech or maybe Roslyn in my dreams, But -Tech will only win it if Myers and Prattley are back for decent stints and Roslyn will only win it if...

Cavvy have no depth & don't have Steve anymore

off the top of my head (could be wrong) here are the winners of the otago/ southland league since 96. SPL FPL or whatever has only been the top winter comp since 2004? Roslyn used to dominate early 90's, as with Tech (late 90's) these were their 2nd teams, both Roslyn & Tech first teams used to dominate Southern League (Chch south) during the 90s

96 - Mosgiel
97 - Tech
98 - Tech
99 - Tech
00 - Cavvy
01 - Cavvy
02 - Cavvy
03 - Roslyn
04 - Cavvy
05 - Cavvy
06 - Cavvy
07 - Cavvy
08 - Cavvy
09 - Cavvy
10 - Cavvy
11 - Tech

Yeah Steve made quite an impact in that fantastic 2003 season didn't he? I think his addition would be just great!. Steve always gave it heaps, and he would be good value helping the younger players coming through. But what sort of shape is he in regarding the big white ball game as opposed to the little red ball game he loves so much?

Is he the Browny whose only talent was in snapping opposition players legs?

I remember some guys who used to trundle around for Roslyn. Great defenders in Dunbar, Sawyer, Valentine, and probably the classiest and most underated of them all, was their sweeper who used to knock brilliant pocket balls... Mathews I think his name was? Great with ball at feet.

That goalkeeper Jarvis was a disgrace, could never figure out if he was drunk, stoned, or both.

Yeah Roslyn wer only missing Aajay, Mepham, Watty and Evans... Score was 2-2 last kick off the game McGarry curled a corner straight in. Although the did have an outfield player in goals becuz their young keeper had his collarbone broken after a collision with that thug Tim Dunn.

Also caught hal the game last night and both teams were far from full strength. Roslyn missing Aajay, Mepham, Evans, Govan and Watson Mosgiel were missing Reg, Morgan, Abbo and dont believe the left back will be the regular but could be wrong there also the addition of Joel if hes unsuccessful in the states should help them aswel. will be a very tight title chase this season

I think cavy braes wudv been the game to catch. Roslyn varsity was a joke. Roslyn on had 11 players plus their coach who played half a game. And I think it's fair to say at least half of that team won't be playing tech next week. Uni won 2nil cudv been 5. Looked sharp as well

Now that we are within a week of kick off thinks its time for some predictions for next week.

Cavvy - University (2-1)
Queenstown - Mosgiel (0-5)
Braes - Northern (2-2)
Tech - Roslyn (3-1)
