Yeah but it's a back 5 - given the number of goals they concede it didn't sound unreasonable.

When you say back three it gives the imagine of two attacking wingers- Back five does not

3 - 5 - 2 is a smart formation, especially for SU playing in the NL, when defending gives them 5 across the back but still great delivery and work rate from wide with prattley and connor and McLennan potentially there as well.  Also means when they spring forward gives them 2 outlets up top rather than 1 running around like a headless chicken, not to mention giving you 3 in the middle of the park which is essential at this level, so they don't get completely overrun through the centre by better opposition.

Completely agree, only potential problem is being pinned back for long periods and wingbacks not being able to get up the field quick enough to help the attack

Southern should have a solid back five depending on injuries

Probably the best active coach out of the current crop. I'm told he will have to be.

3 gaffers in the last 4 seasons for Tech....not a lot of stability at our only 'Quality' club.

Worst post ever.  Now, moving on, excellent pre-season win for the Youth today.  And question..why aren't the seniors training yet.  I'm told they need 'a rest'.  Meanwhile Willy has the Canterbury lads training 4x per week (as he should) as are both ACFC and TW.  When are we going to figure out that training twice a week is pub-team level.

great point and TBH because your team is going to be pretty much locally based why haven't they been training together through the winter season?

Southern United would like to announce the signing of Kuwait International Ahmed Salem.

Ahmed a former Dunedin Technical U10's player will bring a wealth of experience to the back line and is really looking forward to kick starting the season. Ahmed is confident with Waitakere just around the corner, 'what the fudge, we will win the whole thing' claims the new defender.

Good luck and we look forward to seeing you out on the pitch.

Chairman - Aaron Joy

Thanks goodness someone with a brain.  Once we wake up to the fact that training for Tech and Cavy twice and week over the winter season shouldn't leave us so worn out we need a break then we might get somewhere.  What really lies behind this so called needed break is coach and player ignorance and apathy.

Does anyone actually know who is involved? They begin training tonight supposedly but no squad announcement.

1. Are the rumours of Prattley and an Auckland friend true and will they be in the city for trainings or just playing on the weekends?

2. Has Seamus got time off from his building his modelling portfolio?

3. Did ZG get the nod he was chasing?

4. How many of the all conquering Mosgiel squad earned higher honours?

3. ZG got the nod

4. 0. ZG is no longer a MFC player.

Where abouts can we see the squad Scottie? Nothing on Bookface that I can see. And no Day or Coldicot? Were they asked and refused or just not up to it?

Hearing Rory Crow is pretty keen on the GI job but might have some stiff competition from Murray Devereux, who's got a bit more confidence since the recent senior level 2 course.
