It was certainly no classic sawu. You're right the pitch probably factored against a more free flowing, face paced fixture. Unfortunately with 2 of the worst teams in the league monopolising the best surface in town; these 'big' games will always be reduced to dogged battles rather than that of footballing quality.
The point you make about Uni (&GB's) defaulting is a valid one and is a disgrace. It is unfortunate we can not simply rely on our governing body to manage the situation.
