Tech should get past Point without too much trouble. Northern Hearts are good enough to play Southern Prem and will give Uni a good run, especially with Ant Hancock up front.

What happened to the mid-week games scheduled for CC this year? Did FS realise they don't have anywhere to play at night? Knock knock anyone home?

Chatham Cup never played outside NZF set dates so no night games but long weekend Mondays such as Queens Birthday have day games.

June 2014

The Board of Southern United is pleased to announce Mike Fridge as the new coach for the ASB Premiership National League team. This is a two year appointment.

Fridge said, “I’m delighted to be appointed to the role as Head Coach for the Southern Franchise. It will be challenging, but a challenge I’m looking forward to”.

Mike Fridge comes to the role with extensive coaching experience, having started his coaching career in Scotland before immigrating to New Zealand and taking the role of Head Coach for the Dunedin Technical FC Club. During Mike’s time at the club Dunedin Technical won the Football South Premiership twice, were runners up four times, and won the South Island Championship twice. In 2008 Fridge lead the Dunedin Technical Team to the final of the Chatham Cup. In 2007/2008 Mike Fridge was also assistant coach to Terry Phelan for the National League team.

The Southern United Board welcomes Mike Fridge to the team and wishes him all the very best for the upcoming season.

Gannon Effect strikes again. This has to be a joke surely. I was of the understanding woman need a special dispensation to play in Men's league? In that case what is stopping Andrew Douglas from lacing up his boots on a Sunday for the Swans?

Footballsouth was informed before game about this, it is not the first club let alone game in which this has happen. There is no fifa law saying Women can not take part in the league. Heard she also scored the goal, how the Onions have fallen!!

Is there anything preventing males from participating in the Woman's comp? It's a dangerous precedent and is more about ensuring the integrity of the league; not whether football south need another opportunity to show a complete lack of judgement. If we have some extrodinary female talent, evidenced by involvement in the national team, then I would be all for a special dispensation. However this would not include simply playing a woman due to lack of numbers. This is just another example of football south and a certain member of that organisation exercising poor judgement  and a lack of insight. Something Dunedin clubs should not put up with. It's a shambles in my opinion.

Can Cavvy get back to winning ways this weekend? So disappointing against Tech and now they have to front up to a rampant Mosgiel side. Who scored the goals for Mosgiel? it wasn't mentioned in the paper if I recall correctly.

Still backing Cavvy though, 4-3 in a thriller.

As for Football South being a shambles....that is not anything new. Tends to happen when the people running the game don't really understand it....

Tim with a hatrick in his last game, Nice send off then. Good to hear the Wolfman is back amongst the goals.

Could be she is a better player than the over weight blobs in the other teams.

I believe Uni did the smart thing, they went to Footballsouth made sure it was ok for the girl to play, would rather have that than Uni have to not put out a full team, smart move by FS in my books. We all go out there for the love of footy not the love of getting three point because the other side cant field a team.

Tell me Ref Ex how would you feel if you went through a female (I respect the fact that you probably wouldn't know the feeling both on and off the field) and she came off well 2nd best. It's not something id wish and to be put in that position by FS is irresponsible. I'm not saying Uni didn't go about it in the right way; I am saying, yet again this is another example of FS exercising poor judgement, lacking in understanding of the game, insight, and an appreciation of the consequences of such a decision (again something I wouldn't expect you to know much about); this is something all to familiar over the last few years down here.

Where this hate coming from Kennedy chill out bud, if she was willing to play thats her choice so all I say to that is deal with it sunny. I dont believe the male can play in Womens league under the fifa rules but as said before nothing in fifa about woman in male league. Dont see what the big deal is here, funny to hear she scored the goal as well.

Long time reader first time poster.

I find it poor from University having to field a woman in a men's second division game. But give her credit, she was bagged a goal and from what I hear it was a good one to. If she's willing to play men's football and university are willing to field her then best of luck to her. I would be playing against her as I would any other player on that pitch, tough and aggressive with the odd studs up. Obviously you wouldn't have a men's grade player playing in the women's competition so I do understand why people are upset how they can play.

Seriously if a women has scored in a Fletchers Cup game what does it tell you about the standard of that league? Sorry females of the game.

In league news...

The mighty trains win streak has come to a holt. All credit to Tim Horners boys they were playing some good football but have stumbled up against a strong Dunedin Tech side who are gaining some momentum now after a slow start. Once again it looks like it will be a two horse race between Caversham and Dunedin Technical with University in the shadows but once again will bow out.

With Southern United just around the corner, who are some names that are in contention from Dunedin clubs and even out of town?

Seamus Ryder - if he's not busy brushing his hair

Peter Overmire

Thomas Jackson - post ban I'm guessing he will be fired up

Matt Joy

Taylor McCormack

Sam Collier ?

Brent Clifford ?

The Techs [DT & CT] to battle out for Chatham Cup semi final spot in Dunedin on the 26th July.

Another catch up game for DT, could be another Dunedin Tech v Roslyn as the last game of the season with the title on the line.

Can DT go unbeaten for the rest of the season in league and cup.

A big ask but some donkeys have won the Grand National just by getting over the next fence, so one game at a time.

Remember no one gives a toss later on how you win just that you did.
