Manawatu are gone and Otago is next on the block. Nelson and South Auckland making strong bids via the youth league. We need this Southern United team to do well to ensure national league stays in town. At the moment it looks as if the lack of experience in both the coaches and the players will be a major hurdle. It is not an impossible mission but things need to come together faster than what they appear to be.The Canterbury pre-season game will be a good indicator of how things are coming together. The Otago region can't afford to have Southern United get last to give NZF justification for the axe. A class stadium will only get you so far. Batty being no.2 is not a good indicator of how the coaches see the game. I am sure that will change. This season may well be make or break people.

Tom Batty - Great distributor, good kicking game, cat like reflexes, great shot stopper. Has to be the number 1 between the sticks

Fairly average, can hardly kick past halfway but the coach will be wanting him to play out every time, so that won't matter

Tommy will be #1 miles better than Uni keeper. Can only see southern getting the wooden spoon by a country mile.

Sorry to say it but sounds like Uni playing under the southern name, that will only put supporters off and bye bye summer league

i find it bizarre what is happening down there

when your best players played for you, you got spanked, so this new coach comes in from fuck knows where and brings in a bunch of players two layers below the bunch who got spanked and compliments them with an elderly cameroonian, a traveling sinagaorian and a couple of brazilians who used to play for corinthians.  90% of brazil used to play for corinthians.

Ive seen a Brazilian ...{ from a distance , and it was dark ...}...a Sinagaorian  sounds worth travelling to see ...could be rarer than a Waitak fan ....

Good job you guys have a good number 2 goalkeeper who has played at ASB level.
Does Tony Boomer as gk coach get a say or is as rumour has it that Luiz has had Potrich in a team for four years so WILL be number One keeper?
What was last Saturday training game of 3x 45 Mins like? A farce for the 3rd 45 period I bet.
Better to play 15 mins sets and make it that one team [as stated] needs to score 3 goals in that time or a 15 minute shuttle is performed,
Watch the team that has to keep them out work f**g hard to stop them. If they score 3 the other team does shuttle.
Canterbury United v Southern United in Timaru will be interesting, see if the stars of the Samba football team you have will get a touch of the ball.

Was a pity to see S.U struggle against a makeshift team today, was a bigger pity to see how horrible that Low guy was.

With the score 7-3 hard to tell what SU will be like come ASB game one.

Did either side try to play with a solid defensive line up or is this the Samba [Keegans Newcastle] style coming out.

Mate it was a horrible performance.  The cobbled together Southern XI gave SU a bad time - especially in the first 45 min.  It wasn't until the third set of 45 min that SU ran away with it.  But by that time there were quite a few SU players in the Southern XI mix - and SU only ran away with it because the opposition were buggered after 2 hours of football and couldn't run anymore.

Mosgiel won the Lotto U19s held in Christchurch over the weekend.

Well done to Mosgiel on winning the final 2 nil over Nomads with a goal in each half.

Mosgiel the better team all over the park and played the last 25 mins with 10 after a player got [looked like] a double yellow card, must have been one for the tackle and one for back chat.

Nomads should have grabbed an equaliser early in the second half but blasted over when it looked harder to miss than score.

Riley in goal for Mosgiel got a ear full from the spectators behind his goal for the whole of the second half, well done son for not getting involved you had the last laugh on those that didn't make the grade.

Enjoy the trip home.

Funny when you read the above story from the ASB Prem website sounds like Tom Batty has jjust move south to play in the ASB, rather than having been down their for most of 2013.

Would have been better to have stated he'd had a season with SPL champions Dunedin Tech.

Strange blooging about Canterbury on a Southern Football site. Still the SU guys don't get involved with their team much.
Pride play on Sunday and Dragons v SU is on Saturday not as per ASB website.

Not really as always interested what his happening down south, we need the whole of South Island footy to be strong, oh for the return of the fromer Southern League.

What time is lick-off on Saturday as may be able to make on Saturday.
