Why not play your second team players. Pre season a good time to have a look at who may step up for the easier games of the season like playing Varsity.
Be a two team comp again with a few nearly but not good enough teams. Main point will be which team is finishing bottom.

Yeah why not too Scottie.  Bit of football psychology at this stage making Tech thing they re the bee's knees - not a bad idea.  Works for us well. And come the mud and the sleet the Tech imports will run back to their mummies.
1. Roslyn
2. Cavy
3. Tech
4-10. Does it even matter?

Pretty sure there are eight teams in the league. Would be great if there was relegation again in the league as it just makes more games matter and also prize money based on final league placings would be worthwhile. The clubs certainly pay enough of an entry fee to justify prizemoney. Maybe the money just helps pay for the Footballsouth car.

I agree SA, we don't need Northern in the comp, a trip to Invers would be better

No way who wants a trip to giggle, no one that wants to play a worth while game.
Be better to play with the Mainland teams in a South Island comp if having to travel by bus for 4+ hours.
How many hours did the SU team take to get to play down there,  SU team left Dunedin before the Canterbury boys had got out of bed.

Yep I agree bring back the South Island league, travel by mini bus  to keep costs down and the standard will be much better

South Island league needs to happen and should have been in existance for as long as the franchises have been around. Heard from a mate that it was Footballsouth dragging the feet on this one and that there have been discussions with Mainland in recent years. Disappointing if that was so as such a league would certainly be a better standard than what is currently on offer in Dunedin.

Would the players even be interested in the travel every second weekend? On yesterday's game I'd say tech will do it in a canter this year

Yep players will travel every second weekend just because of playing against better players. Would you rather play Mosgiel or travel and play in Chch.

I would of said a couple of weeks ago that only Tech & Cavy could afford to play in the league now not to sure of Cavy. They have the players but money????

Uni 2-1

Mosgiel 3-0

Tech 5-0

Cavvy 3-1

Some interesting first round games there, uni will be a lucky dip so Roslyn will have to put work in there. Mosgiel will demolish green  island and take back the silverware, Dunedin tech will be happy with therir first round apponents but won't take them lightly, should be a fiery encounter if queenstown still have their mentally unstable captain, and cavy should beat northern, who I haven't heard much of but will find out soon.

Roslyn 3-2 win

Mosgiel 4-1 win

Tech 6-0 win

Cavy 3-1 win.

Queenstown pushing for top spot this season.
A couple of top Mainland defenders on the way south shortly.

Blah blah blah queenstown will not be top contenders at all , 90% of the team don't wanna travel! Was speaking to hendo when I was up there the other weekend and he said they basically have the same squad as last year with a couple more younger lads . So they'll struggle to stay up . Who is actually still at gi? Heard a lot of their 1st team have left and if they are having to bring some of there 2nd team up they'll be in the same boat as qtown. Looking forward to watch ant " the locksmith " Hancock bang in a hat trick against cavvy this weekend for his new club northern hearts.

Roslyn battle Mosgiel again tomorrow in preseason action, word is The Plainsmen have thier club opening tonight and will turn up a little dusty for the game come saturday afternoon. Mosgiel won 2-1 a few weeks back but that was against a Horsehead without thier Southern United superstars.

Can Mosgiel complete a preseason double or will Roslyn square the series?

Roslyn $1.60

Draw $4.00

Mosgiel $5.00

Cunningham to score in his new role upfront?

Yes $1.70

No $2.10

$50 on Roslyn . Tommy Connor informed me they do not wanna lose twice to the maggots in as many games and are putting a very very strong side out and should get the job done. Roslyn 4-1.

National Referee’s week commences on Monday 17th March!! Saturdays paper will have a wee article on Ref Calvin Berg to promote the Refs within Dunedin!!

How's the numbers looking for the Refs!!!!

Permalink Permalink

Last I heard it wasn't so good. One point control may make for interesting times. I also hear Footballsouth need to get their employment policies right but I did hear that last year. I may be out of touch.

So our fees go up to football south, but refs numbers reduced to one point control!!!! How does that work & what a we paying for

Permalink Permalink

Referee numbers are well down, number of refs are not returning! Time shall tell for us Refs!!

Cheaper for the clubs to only have to pay for one ref per game than 3 or 4.

"One way to learn was to start out as an assistant referee, running the touchline, and watching an experienced official control a game."
Or you know, watch the 2nd last defender and the offside line... Might be a little more useful to the referee to be fair.

Better to be the man in the middle with the power than the one on the line getting the abuse.
D TECH 4 Northern 0 what a rubbish game.
Not much skill from either side and five minutes of DTs young lads in the second game

Will someone enlighten us on the Morgan Day to Cavvy rumours doing the rounds? Im assuming its all BS as he played for Mosgiel in the weekend but if its true then its a big pick up for The Train.
