Will save them heaps of cash. Won't need to pay the 2 irish academy coaches or kit manager anymore to play....chance to promote all their young talent

I understand youth development will be big this year - it's something Edwards did well at Petone and he's keen to keep it going at United. Could see lots of academy players in and around their first team this season

Still time though.🤞

The only goal race he was focused on in 2023 was with younger brother Ronan, who scored 33 League of Ireland goals for Waterford FC in 27 matches before signing this month for English third tier League One club Fleetwood Town.

The soccer siblings were going head to head “because the Irish League and the New Zealand League run pretty much at the same time”.

“He got off to a bit of a flyer, but I caught up him and managed to finish [ahead].’’

Really makes things difficult to predict if United have an all-new team and coaching lineup. They'll obviously be competitive but Tech should be quietly licking their lips hoping Utd's team doesn't gel quickly

Unlikely to be a just a two team race this season as several teams appear to be recruiting to move up the table. Technical will be without Garbhan Coughlan mid-season in the Southern League due to getting married in Ireland, with several teammates likely to be attending the wedding.

Well it certainly makes it interesting when almost the entire team of the Southern League and Chatham Cup leaves, including the coaches.

Could make for an interesting league.

So a pro player comes for $150 a week? Soon to be announced as an Academy coach at ChCh United for $60k and live free on site like the Irish Boys last year? Nice to see quality players in the league but still makes a mockery of the amateur game.

The team he joined from just got relegated into the fourth tier last year, finishing bottom of their regional league. Might technically be called 'pro' but there's no way a fourth tier Finnish side is properly professional; it's not as if he's come from the Veikkausliiga. Just really will be an OE/working holiday while playing some football, which isn't a bad avenue of getting players for a season.

Especially if you're looking to rebuild an entire team which it seems is the task at United this year. Gets the player some experience and he can help coach the young'uns as well to prepare them for potentially the 2025 season.

Anyone know of any pre-season games coming in the next few weeks?

Copied from Selwyn United FC facebook page - was posted earlier this afternoon.

SUFC is pleased to announce that Chris Brown has agreed to take on the Head Coach role for the Stallions.
Chris had previously worked as the Stallions head coach from 2019-2021, gaining qualification to the National League in 2021, and had since been working under Lee Padmore as Assistant Coach. As our Director of Football, Chris has an in depth knowledge of our player pool and footballing pathways, a strong footballing philosophy and a keen tactical mind.
We are delighted to have Chris working as our Head Coach again and we wish him and the Stallions the best of luck for the season ahead.
We look forward to seeing you all down at Foster Park for the upcoming Southern League campaign!
