Well that Christchurch United out of NL27 through SL qualification then. 11 points behind Coastal with only two games left, and 8 points behind 4th Nelson. Playoffs are their only option now, which they'll most likely be facing Western Suburbs and Auckland United or Western Springs.

Not confirmed yet. It'll probably be confirmed next week and United need some big favours, but it is still possible for Coastal to finish 4th and United to finish 5th.

Oh that'a right, they only need to be two spots behind so it's still on the table. They have Coastal then Northern next so they basically need to win all their last two games games to make it (Assuming they don't end up leapfrogging Nomads at the last minute)

Yeah, whole positions thing makes it a pain to work out. Fates of Coastal & Chch Utd somewhat arbitrarily rest on the results of Nelson.
Nelson have to get 3 more points than Coastal and Chch Utd need 3 more points than Northern (and Nomads need to stay ahead of Coastal).
Technically Chch Utd can make it with one just win (over Northern), but they'd be very lucky (and Coastal very unlucky). Think it would also mean an 11 point gap between the two sides.
Nelson Suburbs have Ferrymead (A) and Cashmere (H) remaining, so their odds of overtaking Coastal are pretty slim

United cannot finish any higher than 6th place now - can only finish with 23 points and Suburbs who are currently fifth currently sit on 25. Big games in the next round - 22 August when Coastal host United and Bays at home to Suburbs.

Correct. Only path for United is overtaking Northern to finish 6th while Coastal drop below Nelson to finish 5th.
Arguably Nelson's comeback from 3-0 down on Sunday could work in United's favour, Nelson now three points behind Coastal rather than four while United could still get past Northern.

With Ferrymead Bays not picking up points on Saturday it meant Cashmere Technical secured the title with 14 games played, the least number required to secure the title since the 18-game league resumed in 2022.
The 300th goal of the seasons was scored over the weekend, with the average number of goals per game currently sitting on 3.81, well down on the previous lowest of 4.23 in 2023, with the highest being 4.71 in in 2024.

I will be very interested to see how Cashmere Tech go in the National League, it does feel they have barely had a challenge so far this far.

Honestly I can't imagine United get in through the playoffs, they've been so poor this season even with the OPL reinforcements.
