Thought oleary was an a league ref?

O'Leary is in that World Cup program and is one of the better refs in the league - just they don't use him.

Tell you what - whatever the result tomorrow, ill not be vling the ref - too much of that these days for my liking.

..... not that my opinion i.e  ; that hes a prancing , self centered twat , who if he was half as good as he thinks he is , would be brilliant ,has been proved wrong yet ...

Interesting how you know the guys personality and life history based on how he referees. I wonder what I could say about you personally based on your posts and forum handle... Suspect you wouldn't like that.

I've watched him ref a couple of times in NZFC from the tunnel and I think he is the best we've got by a long shot. Quite interesting watching them up close and how they communicate with the assistants and game staff, some are up themselves, some intense, some laid back - just like players and coaches actually.

I did a club based referees course in Wellington some time in 06/07 (it was a while). O'Leary took it and I think the thing I took away from it was that the people that referee are going to get angst because they carry a whistle and wear a black shirt. Once they get out of that uniform, they are just regular people. I say that because I too watched him referee and thought 'what a twat' but on this course, he was a genuinely nice person and I could not reconcile that with this guy in front of me, and the guy that referees on TV

Its quite easy to play the man and not the ball. Much like for example, I think you post like a twat, but are a probably a good person face to face with a job, vices, pressures, family, friends etc. I guess it's just human nature...

o'leary's a nice guy and a very good ref.  i don't understand why he would ever attract flak, apart from the fact that he's a referee in the first place and this habit is just plain annoying in the first place
