Yes, it's been going for a while. Actually, these updates aren't that great, very little information in there.
Team Wellington... no longer an association with Ole. Chur
All over by the way, 2-0 to Waitak.
looks like the tab knows more about footy than me
also looks like TW on paper are a bit better than the real life version

Bob Pearce is a great bloke but he admitted to me today that his fingers are getting a bit too old for live updates ;-). Always worth a read of his previews and recaps though.
Two people doing live updates logistically is hard, what is usually done is there someone doing the updates, and another good set of eyes there to keep an eye on the action when frantically typing away after a rash of subs or cards.
I'm sure commentary is in the pipeline at some stage but financially I think it'd be a struggle to achieve.
Word is Waitak netted their chances TW had more and dominate for much of the game but could not put the ball in the net.
Next weekend is a home game
still, we lost to a team who has struggled pre season, lost their four strikers from last year and didn't have cunneen, hogg or butler playing
What is it TW needs a #9 (Striker). #Steinekin
Bizarre night - female stranger sits next to me and spends 2 hrs talking to me - then gets offended when I won't take her for a meal - so asks me for $35 dollars to pay for her meal. Left quickly. ( Striker? Or was It lucky miss) lol

I used to use EG here as my spotter, narrator, reader of my audio book. Not enough colour in some of the reports for me. I mean where is the review of the quality of the sausage sizzles or a discussion on how bad the hangover is or even which players were spotted out at 02:00 the morning before?
Standards have clearly slipped.

Arthritis. Wine no cure.
But heck ,hes giving that cure every oppourtunity !!
I've seen City play in front of less than were there on Sunday.

Really? When? Only time I've seen that is for pre season against refugee all stars or some such... Even then it would be close to 150.
HN was at an ACFC game at the Croatian Cultural centre v Otago, when there were "less than 200 present."
1) Games at the CCC always attract fewer spectators than at Kiwitea St - mostly just the hardcore Croat base plus board plus ex-players plus Ultras.
2) Otago was probably the team least likely to attract any other than the above.
Gees either t dub are shit or they are in cahoots with the TAB
The way you guys are surprised at the loss makes me think the odds should have been 50/50 in your minds, because $9 longshots (even $4.50 longshots), aren't meant to win very often.
Will be interesting to see how TW go against the likes of Canterbury, HB and WaiBOP, the teams they need to beat

Surely all the fault of unequal fund distribution ...{ stands back as Termie drags out screeds of relevant info , covered with what the reader hopes is drool } .....BTW how much is a TW season pass / single adult ticket now ?
I ask cos ACFC has just gone up [ First time ever } ...note Wanderoonies are free entry ....well done NZFC !
Waitakere would be the most expensive at $15....

Many a true word spoken in jest FU BLU.
An expenditure cap would certainly contribute to a more competitive league, which would probably regenerate at least some interest outside of Auckland. It would also contribute to the overall sustainability of the league.
Seems to me the only losers would be players currently being paid to play in what is supposedly an amateur league (a number of them imports) and the Auckland teams who have traditionally dominated the league.
So the choice for ACFC is clear. Do you want to continue to dominate a league that the rest of the country doesn't really care about? Or are you prepared to give up some of that dominance in order to help create a more relevant competition? (and a by product for ACFC in particular would be that your heavy reliance on a single income stream would be lessened, reducing your risks and contributing to your club's sustainability).
Team Wellington free for Phoenix season ticket holders. Is it a tenner otherwise Blew?
who ever thought that the yellow fever forums would become a socialist get together
Couple of things.
1) They haven't dominated the league recently. Waitak have won it the last 4 years. They should start dominating it from now on though. Although they do dominate Oceania tbf.
2) Why should they lower their standards (and in turn, the league's standards) just to give the rest of the league a chance? It's not junior football.

How/why would standards drop? The same players would be involved but presumably more evenly spread over the teams.
Admittedly there would probably be fewer imports, but that is often mentioned here as being a problem anyway.
Unless you are speculating that some Kiwi players wouldn't bother playing national league at all if they can't be paid?

A-League = socialist?
MLS = socialist?
Salary caps, expenditure caps, financial fair play rules etc are becoming more prevalent in leagues all over the world. Makes total sense if you want your league to be competitive and sustainable.
Besides, it is almost beyond satire to call such an idea "socialist" in the context of a discussion about ACFC when their major source of funding since creation has been from gaming trusts (actually, one gaming trust). No club in the ASB Prem has made itself more reliant on handouts than ACFC (with the possible exception of Waitakere, whose gaming trust funding is at least spread over a number of trusts).
Surely there is someone at ACFC who can see the sense in proactively moving both the club and the league away from this model? It's either that or wait for the DIA to do it for us.
How would you feel if it was TW who were dominating the league and had the best squad, best staff, best facilites etc?

Exactly the same. In fact, that's exactly what it's like to be a Phoenix fan, in a league with such rules already in place.
In eight seasons the A-League has delivered 6 different premiers and 5 different champions. In its entire existence the NZFC has delivered 2 champions. Which do you think is the more interesting league to follow a team in?

What if they were supplying the Nix with better players though? After all, our national league is only a development league, right?

Not quite sure what your point is there. The Nix will pick up any player from any team in the ASB Prem who they think can do a job for them. And yes, it's in their interests that the league develops Kiwis, not imports.

If the players aren't playing (i.e. the mercenaries) they won't get noticed.

Poor choice of logical argument. It then makes sense that they would play, if only to get noticed.
Getting paid something is better than getting paid nothing. All this would stop is ACFC spending significantly more than other sides. So it'd affect maybe a couple of imports.
It'd also increase interest in the league across the country.
The only losers are ACFC and a couple of their players.
The problem is putting an official salary cap on an amateur league will clearly raise some red flags at DIA.

Easily the ASBP for many reasons.
1) I live in Auckland - Why would I support a team based in Wellington who plays home games in Wellington or more recently one game a year in Auckland and plays in an overseas league. I'm an active supporter not an armchair viewer.
2) The ASBP benefits football fans in the majority of NZ rather than just those in Wellington.
3) The ASBP fosters genuine national rivalries as opposed to an NZ/Aus rivalry. If I want that then I'll watch the All Whites V Australia.
4) I genuinely want the ASBP to succeed so would not give up on it just because more teams have won in the Australian competition. I was born in Scotland where 2 teams have dominated for the last 25-30 years - doesn't mean I give up on it and start supporting an English team.
You're pretty much completely missing my point there. Take off your ACFC hat for moment and think about what's best for the league. The question is simple. Do you think it would be good for the league to have a more level playing field?
It kind of makes sense that you wouldn't see any problems with the current set-up being from Scotland though. You've really just come here and decided to support one of the NZ equivalent of Celtic or Rangers. Brave choice (or at least convenient).
