NIX NYL team entry solve the problem?
Team Wellington... no longer an association with Ole. Chur
NIX NYL team entry solve the problem?
Not sure if I was clear; I was thinking (hypothetically) Nix youth team entry into Aussie NYL.
Then those really good players from wherever who are currently heading to TW for potential Nix opportunities are less likely to gravitate to TW 'cos that would then be seen as a slightly different pathway: A league/A league Youth vs ASB/ASB youth.
That has always been the ideal solution but no one will pay for it.

I thought they had indicated they weren't against the concept?
If it was cost neutral for them they would be fine with it but cost neutral would have to involve no additional cost to them of travel or administration.

I agree there should be 2 Wellington based teams just like we have 2 Auckland based teams. There are plenty of ASB premiership standard players in Wellington, enough to make 2 squads.
Is De Vries confirmed for TW? Great signing it will be a very strong squad this year!
I actually don't think there are all those players you think there are. I mean, you could probably cobble together a reasonable team out of the players that TW have cast off this year, but they haven't cast them off for other Wellington players...
I think if there were two teams in Wellington you'd create a financial arms race for players, which would be crippling.
Or, you'd have one team full of kids that struggled along, which would be my preference and might be good, but would require someone tolerant to be in charge of it.
Having lived in Wellington a while back, I'm interested in how Wellington football people feel about tee(not)dubs & teedubsyoof:
a) they are no longer "our" team as fewer local lads playing
b) full of good players going places, playing good football, in our town; let's get in behind them
c) both of the above
d) whateva
I think it would give the whole competition a massive lift if either Wgtn or Chch could get into the O-League
But only Auckland City could possibly compete in and win the O-League and get into the CWC.
They are the ASBP's saviours.

I feel like they were never really 'ours' anyway, so meh. I'll still turn out when I can in an attempt to support the ASBP though, and to watch some football.
Could end up as a little bit of B by the end of the season now I suppose.

I think if you were designing a league (rather than looking at the reality as it is now) you'd want 2 teams from Wellington and 3 from Auckland. It's far cheaper to travel to and from those two places so you raise costs a lot less than if you expand to Nelson, Wairarapa or another provincial centre, plus you then get the benefit of more derby matches which tend to be fairly well covered in the media. I still think that's the way forward although you're right it might be difficult to achieve without fatally weakening both sides and people getting stupid with player wages.
It would be a pretty big game, Wellington vs the Hutt too...
TW is now a magnet for any young player that fancies themselves as having a shot at the Phoenix. Like it or not, thats how its shaping up. Its not great for local talent but then you are not exactly going to struggle to put out a decent side as an added bonus. Get an O League spot and you watch it all kick on.
in the geographic space between napier and christchurch there is just one team
wellington could easily sustain two sides

You think the youth players who are at ASB level from last season have sat back and not made contact with TW off season, found out for themselves the level of commitment required and then not at least asked the questions. ( the same mistake a lot of players make sitting in NZ waiting for the phone call)
Had not heard of the Wai situation, but I have seen Phil at many games over the last few weeks, Ivan England and Upper Hutt U19.
So you get selected for TW youth and you say no, as is a player right then turn up in the heartland team. No one can challenge that.

Yes, but once they come through the youth teams, or the players who have just come out of them, they are then left with TW which is full of out of towners. No room at the Inn.No where for them to continue their development or play to their potential + some.
I hear Capital Football have aligned themselves with the Phoenix and are already taking the TW youth team. So I guess we will see no support from them regarding the need for another ASB team. Shame they aren't doing their job which is looking after and developing all players in the region....... Being in bed with them does not make for a non biased view of what is happening to football in their area.
I have been told they have put conditions on the Wairarapa youth team, saying that they cannot choose their team till after TW youth team has had their trials and choosen their team.Level playing field and the best for youth.....Maybe not!

Loads of unsubstantiated bullshit in that post.
Capital Football has provided a coach for the TW youth team for at least the last four years. They're doing it again this year. I think the assistant is from Miramar.
Tvaroh from Wairarapa United is coaching the Wairarapa team, but guess where his assistant works. You got it, Capital Football!
Wairarapa offered to run their trials after TW so as to prevent an arms race for young players.
So actually, a pretty good indication of all parties doing the right things not the wrong things.

Hmmm. Have you seen the letter from CF to all clubs regarding TW youth and Wairarapa? I think not!
and maybe you should be talking to the players and clubs with youth players and players just out of youth in the region and seeing how happy they really are!
Maybe get of your high horse and rubbing noses with all the people that are running the show and get back whats best for the players!

Haven't seen letter.
Also haven't heard any complaints, even from regular salt-of-the-earth types that I occasionally descend from my ivory tower to mix with.
You sound disgruntled. Suspect you are a miffed parent.

Far from it! This seems to be you answer any time someone speaks out about youth football.
I am concerned for players in the area especially when CF send letters out that is not in the interest of football and players in their area, but 1 team.
Post the letter there then if its not a secret. All this talk of a letter but no content.....
Check with your clubs!
That hardly works when I am in Auckland.
You reference a letter then don't want to disclose the contents. Again, it sounds like its hardly a secret so spill..... (or does this letter in fact exist)
I'm not into leaking a letter that has been sent out to clubs.I have some integrity and are not the leaky media.
It does exist, but if you an believe what you wish. Maybe ask CF for it.
I'm confused mossimo - what is your issue exactly?
What rubbish.
If it is with the clubs, its hardly a state secret especially when we are talking Youth football and you were quick to reference it yourself when it suited your position but now you can't? Quick, tell the GCSB to stand down. Its like saying "SBW and I train together every day but I can't tell you where or when, you'll just have to trust me"
Believe what you wish! Clubs in Wellington have the letter!
Okay, setting aside the letter for a minute. What is the issue exactly?
so much fuckery and whinging at youth level. nothings changed

Yes money has been an issue along with who you know for a very long time.
I know but to late to fix it for the boy.
More of the same TW pick players Nix borrow
there was talk about 'de vries' signing for TW
is this ryan or francis?
ryan has been named on the auckland city website and given jersey 10
francis wouldn't be a bad signing either

Maybe because of the trial, people had assumed he was signing with TW.
Francis studying/playing at St Francis college in USA! USA! USA!
Ryan de Vries has been trialling in Wellington but he has not signed anything.
