I think when the 'best' team in the country (Auckland) are no longer speaking English to each other, the perhaps there is a bit of a problem.
This smacks of latent racism. Emiliano Tade, for instance, ended up being extremely eloquent in English.
I'm not an ACFC fan (and don't want to sound like an apologist for them) but they are playing within the rules of the competition. Sure they utilise pokey money and employ 'coaches that play a bit' from overseas but blame the system not the club.
I think (hope) you are joking when you accuse Liberty of making a racist statement, given that the statement does not meet the definition of racism.
Their point highlights an issue many have commented on, too many players representing a franchise when they do not have a "year round" association/affinity with that franchise area - whether that be "overseas" players (with ACFC mainly in the spotlight) or "nationally imported" players (with Team Wellington more recently being in the spotlight).
Thankfully it appears our national league will shortly be reviewed. Hopefully as part of that review the purpose of our national league will be clearly defined (and advised) and then the rules/regulations can be crafted to best ensure the purpose is achieved - whatever that may be.
