This was the nearly the most boring match I have ever watched.
Thankfully Corrales scored a magnificent individual goal which looked totally out of place in this dull encounter. Recieving a clearance from a Waikato corner deep in his own half, he left the defence for dead with good old fashioned kick and rush, and then finished excellently.
But why do TW play with a forwardline of Little and Corrales ? They play much better when Halstead is up there, and when he came on he won good ball. Little needs a target man alongside him, and Corrales cant play with back to goal. He needs to sit deeper and get the ball played in front of him, like Andrei Kanchelskis. Long balls are just being eaten up by the defence when those two are up front.
Apart from that, the only things that stuck in my mind were several first class stops from Phil Imray. He really was brilliant today, and with Ricky Herbert watching, maybe he should turn out for the Phoenix.
Corrales scored again at the death with another good little run when he got the ball in front of him.

I thought both keepers were impressive actually, but you are right it was a shocker. James Dean always says you always get value for your $7.00 at Team Wellington, but today I'm really not sure I did (apart from Luis's goals)

I was a bit late arriving today, so I watched the first half from Jews Alley. So my $7 was better invested in beer!

Tremendous stop from Imray for the Waikato free kick. He was tremendous.
Didn't see Herbert there though?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

If there was an idiot of the week award I'd be at the front of the queue this week
Having read this topic I can now see that my planned walk to Newtown Park this afternoon would be doomed to frustration
Glad it wasn't the 'game of the season' and will now put all the TW games up on the calendar, instead of thinking I have a brain that works

You're not the only one tigers. The Salmon only realised it was a Saturday match when he turned up at Nairn ST. for a kick-around.
Tony P was there, I never saw Ricki though.

In the Waikato Times Waikato coach Roger wilkinson offered the view that Waikato controlled the game v Wellington, despite missing a host of players.
"We outplayed them fullstop."
I have no view on this myself but put it here in the interests of promoting discussion from those who were present and whether the "run of play" on the NZFC gametracker was a true indication.
For the record it seems that:
Waikato also outplayed waitakere and lost 0-2.
Waikato were outplayed by Manawatu but won 1-0.
Waikato outplayed Otago but lost 0-2.
In the circumstances i'm hoping, as a Waikato fan, that Canterbury play them off the park this weekend -- and Waikato limp home 5-0.
cheers,

Doesn't every coach think their team deserved to win every game? Rose tinted glasses, blind optimism, or just plain stubbornness?
