as Salmon07 said in the youth team topic, we had enough chances to win it more than 1-0

it seemed that G (Little's) and Luis Corrales movement and vision made a difference when they came on

enjoyed seeing Terry Phelan's efforts to rev his lot up (and for the 10-15 minutes before we scored they looked a bit threatening - glad we finally put one in)

good to see G put the defender on his ass when he turned him inside out before setting up the goal

G's introduction turned it- it sparked Raf into action, Adam Birch started connecting with passes as well-

Luis deserved the goal that was disallowed for offside, unfortunate that Halstead got the last touch from an alleged offside position, it was goal bound anyway i think

Graeme deserved a goal as well

Thought Peter Halstead was great today, esp. in first half before maybe he was a bit tired. He had great touch, won good balls, held the ball up.  The best upfront pairing for TW is him and Little, the other pairings dont seem to work anywhere near as well.

Graham Little made a difference when he came on , and made the goal.

Corrales is quick isnt he? I'm not sure the ball was going in from where I was standing when Halstead touched it. Dunno if he was offside either.

The most entertaining part of the afternoon was listening to Terry Phelans nonsense from the sideline, incessant shouting at his players. Players at this level, or any level , do not need to be told what to do everytime they get the ball, probably do not listen anyway, would rather be left alone and will not be motivated by this sort of crap. It reminded of the stupid parents at an under 8s match. I would have told him to f off.  Some coaching from the side , fine, I did it myself, but talk organisational issues when the ball has gone, not tell them what pass to make FFS.

Otago were fairly ordinary, Western Suburbs would have beaten them comfortably.

Didnt notice him much.  He came off at half time for Little, who was far more effective.

De Gregorio was busy in midfield, as was Birch. These two battled hard to win balls. Cheritons touches werent quite as effective in a packed midfield - Ive seen him play much better.

TW played well, but I guess you can say that Otago were pretty moderate opponents, and should have been despatched by several more than 1-0. Imray could have been asleep in the Welly goal.

Gulley got the winner, great strike after been set up beautifully by Little. Gulleys a funny sort of player, looks a bit cumbersome at times, but gets himself into good positions and could have had a hat trick from left back. Some of his finishing shows why he in the defense, but occasionally he gets one right and its all over!

Wasn't there so didn't hear it, but interesting comments on a man who's achieved more in his career than anybody in this country could probably dream of but, as I said, i didn't hear it.

p.s. Having seen Otago a few weeks ago, I can quite believe they do need somebody telling them which pass to make

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Todays match was absolutely woeful!!!

No wonder the state of the game is the way it is in this country if this is what is on offer!!!
Yes it is great that TW scored a winner and collected 3 points but I think that everyone knows that if we are to challenge Waitak and Auckland we will need to lift the level of our performance and the quality in our play.

There was a visible lack of width in our play which allowed Otago to soak up pressure and counter.
At the end of the day 3 points is 3 points...in the bag.

Yeah, Phelan achieved a lot as a player.

But players aint robots , they are humans with emotions.

They need teaching and motivating, but screaming at them constantly the way he did aint gonna do much I dont reckon.

Dunno anything about his pre-match coaching skills, but I wasnt impressed with what we saw or rather heard during the game

Tinkler looked the best of the backs I thought, and to be playing well within his skills and a very low risk game.

Yes, he is. From the East of Scotland somewhere. Might be Edinburgh. His brother plays for Auckland City.

...and I suspect the reason he didn't start was that they had played Sunday and Wednesday already.

Normally he does start.

I don't miss being a match official when they were both playing in the same team. Still, at least it was nice to be abused in my native tongue, I s'pose.

Grahams had a concussion and is not fully over it yet so didnt start. His brother Brian is with Auckland but is soon going to the states to play for the Portland Timbers.
