This subject has come up at various times within various threads, most recently under the "LA Galaxy vs Oceania selection in Auckland" thread.
A significant number of Yellow Fever members have previously suggested that the OFC has no long term future or purpose and that either:
- Oceania should be disbanded and absorbed into Asia somehow, or
- NZ should be trying to follow Australia and join the AFC
Admittedly, most of this discussion has been driven by the debate around Oceania's place at the Club World Cup being under threat and whether the Phoenix should be allowed to represent Oceania at the tournament, so there is a degree of self-interest for Phoenix fans (who see the ultimate solution to their current "in limbo" status being for NZ to become part of the AFC).
That said, there are also a significant number of people who think that the issue is much bigger than the Phoenix and can't see any justification for Oceania to remain as FIFA's smallest confederation (by far) and that all Oceania member nations would be better served by being part of Asia.
Mr Tai Nicholas, General Secretary of the OFC has generously offered to share his views on why OFC should remain a seperate confederation.
Over to you Mr Nicholas...
