Looking forward to the next few years in the NZFC, is the gap between the top 3 and bottom 5 going to get wider? It seems to me and is evident this year that the top thrre teams are able to build competitive teams and bring in quality signings where as the rest aren't!

See, this whole 'we're doomed thing'... Canterbury have a lean season yes, but they've made the play-offs and the final before.

Manawatu have been strong most seasons, Waikato first season were strong, Otago are in a good run currently and Hawkes Bay have a stack of youngsters that will just get better each year.

You can't just write the whole team off on one bad season.  Hell Melbourne finished 7th one season and won the A-League the next.  They obviously have some issues that need sorting.
