i can confirm that we have not received anything from tvnz is response.  they may have a backlog to get through...  we'll be sure to post their (automated) response if/when we get it.

I remember last year i got up to watch Spurs play Man U at about 2am in the morning, and was sitting there as 2am got nearer and nearer thinking surely they're not going to keep showing this tennis game to its conclusion. And sure enough the FIRST round of some clay court hick tournament with two no names played out until it finished.

This meant they cut to White Hart Lane with about 25 mins gone. I sent SKY an email about it, saying surely more people would be wanting to watch a big Premiership game than 2 no-names in the first round, and they did reply to me, saying although I was obviously a football fan they had to look after their tennis fans too!

There is a "story" going back away to when the Kingz first got up and running, as to why TVNZ seemingly ignore football these days. It was "rumoured" that the Kingz board put proposals to both TVNZ and SKY TV regarding coverage of the Kingz in the old NSL. SKY offered the Kingz something along the lines of 3 million dollars (I can't recall the exact fee but we'll go with this just to illustrate the story) and TVNZ came up with...allegedly ten million dollars (or, say a lot more than the SKY deal). Ok so ignoring the specific figures, basically TVNZ's deal was worth more in financial terms. For some unknown reason the Kingz board turned down TVNZ and went with SKY, who presumeably was able to offer specific extras such as Kids Kingz and Soccer Central to supplement broadcasting rights of Kingz matches. I also believe there was something written into the deal that would return extra funds to the Kingz should they attain a specified viewer figure.
This is all hearsay of course and I guess one day when guys such as Chris Turner or John Batty decide to write a book on this inaugural period of professional football in NZ, we will get more of an idea. But it sounds a pretty good reason as to why TVNZ would get pissed off with soccer.
Basketball did the same thing to TVNZ. I was speaking with a former Tall Black two weeks ago and we were having a beer and comparing notes regarding football and basketball and why the TV coverage was pretty much lame on free-to-air and interestingly it appears that both codes were either too greedy or they back-stabbed TVNZ sport. There must be a story there somewhere for someone with plenty of time to investigate....Ian Wishart anyone?

I heard on Radio Sport today that TVNZ on the new Freeview (Digital) they are heavily promoting at the moment will cover from Rnd 4, the remainder of the V8's (I'm not a petrol head so not sure of the full details), this will screen solely on their digital platform, so you can see the Digital ability they have will mean they won't have to cut to the News etc, and will have a greater scope to cover sport - just a pity they currently have bugger all sport (bit of Motorsport, Rich Man's Yachting and the abysmal Silver Ferns)

Looking forward to reading the letter to TVNZ.  Perhaps everyone on here should send a similar letter,  after all sometimes you have to tell fools things many times before they actually hear it.

Looking on the positive side of things TVNZ have been good to football by ....... uh dunno. hopeless really. I get the feeling they show just enough to stop a complete melt down in relationships with the football public.

What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?
