This is my first forum message , I am based in shrewsbury England and have heard that Waikato FC have signed Welsh u21 striker/left winger Dale Williams. He is 20 years old and unforunatly was released from shrewsbury . He started his career at 16 when he signed for Yeovil Town ,at 19 he was signed by shrewsbury town but came down with a virus which laid him up for 5 months but is now fully recovered. He as played for Wales at u19's and u21 level .He is a very good player and is until is illness he was being watched by Everton. When i have seen himplay he was very quick with good skill and scored plenty of goalsfor shrewsbury reserves .

Sounds like a good prospect, could be a pretty potent force teaming up with Robert Gill up front...

He trialled with the Phoenix and never got signed chanter.  He looked alright in the trials though.

Grrr you watch it mate, you will be quite surprised, espec. given that unless you support Auckland A & B or Manawawho? they are the only other team to finish in the top three (I think, although maybe CHCH has too).

Even better he's under 21 and is a forward, maybe Riki could persude to change his allengance and motivate him to hang around for awhile, get NZ citizenship and be apossible forward for NZ in the future.  he'd have more chance to play on the worlds largests stages then he ever would with Wales.

Long live Waikato!

Sounds good but dont see him playing for Waikato for long after recent results and also the prospects of this player. Hopefully he can lift the team, but good luck to him and all the best.

I know that waikato are your team but... unless you have lived on mars since 2004 you surely cant honestly think youll break the nz version of the old firm?

Lol chanter they havent even beaten us yet!! And their firm is Rex and maybe a couple mates. But yeah seriously waikato aren't going too far again this year although they did make the playoffs in 05, can't see that happening this time.

Three for me, and two for them.

maybe just stating the obvious, but if he is that good why would shrewsbury town release him and why would he go to waikato?

what link does he have with the club?

Roger Wilkinson coached a lot of kids in the UK.  Williams could have come from there or one of his contacts still in the UK, or even one of the UK players that OE for Melville or Wanderers.

What i can gather from people i have spoken to it was Brian flynn Wales u21 manager who reccomended Dale Williams to Roger Wilkinson for Dale to restart his career after his illness and that Dale's godparents live in Rotorua. He is a very good player and i have watched him play for the reserves and when he played for wales u21's , when he became ill he was treated very badly with Shrewsbury town and alot of shrews supporters blamed the manager for not given him a chance when he recovered from  illness. He will make a massive impack playing for Waikato and willscore loads of goals for you.

Word is Roger Wilkinson plans to play dale Williams on the flank, with a front two of Robert Gill and Steven Holloway, a 22-year-old due back from o/seas who is an unknown quantity at this level but who has scored goals bigtime everywhere he has played, most recently in helping melville to promotion. Matt Williams the midfield anchor. Shaun van Rooyen signing too. Maybe Hone Fowler. Che Bunce is back. I think Waikato will be a lot more organised this year and with a much improved goalscoring ability. Dont discount them. First time they have a full season being coached by somebody who is not a flake.

Who is the unknown quantity, Steven who played well for Waikato in the first NZFC, or Gill or Williams?

Like any import, if he was any good he would not be in New Zealand. I am picking him to be a flop.

I know what your gettin at syd but the two strongest teams in NZ are Auckland City and the scum. Its a big achievement if you can even finsish above either of them.

That's ridiculous.  There have been many, many good imports in NZ.  I mean without even thinking Kieryn Jordan and Grant Young have been the dominant domestic players here throughout the NZFC

edit: ah News, as usual too quick!  and your list is that next level up!

This has to be the post of the week.
There are so many examples of imported players doing well here finisher I can only assume that you are really Jock Hobbs trying to undermine the swell of public interest gathering in football here. lmao.

What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?

Thats garbage.
There is a massive difference in standard between even the NZFC's best, and the full time players in league 2 in England, so even if he falls short of the professional standard in the UK, doesnt in any way mean he's not good enough to be a very good player in the NZFC.

I know nothing about the guy, butto write negatively about him before seeing him is a nonsense.

Objection Mr Chairman.
Dale Williams is Welsh not English.
Celts hate being referred to as Sais. Much like if Kiwis were called Aussies or Wellington called Auckland.

Buffy... have a read of the whole thread...  someone said all imports were flops I was listing those who weren't (although anyone within 5 feet of Jordan and he'll 'flop' at a rate of knots).
