Hello there. Attendance at Cambridge has been good in terms of expectation - but modest in terms of historic highs.

I think it's fair to say Waibop have exceeded expectations at Cambridge, and outside of factors beyond their immediate control - acknowledged dressing room probs and a playing surface that is below that of other entities - have run a very good matchday. There's been an enthusiasm and vitality there that was generally lacking at Porritt and Ngaruawahia (apart from that 2008 summer) and I say that as someone who could conceivably be blamed given I was a volunteer administrator for part of that period.

But when you compare the attendances to 10 years ago when summer football was re-introduced, we are still well over a 1000 down on crowd numbers - and most other clubs are as well.

Indeed, if when league entries were being sought, Waikato had suggested they would attract 500-700, they probably never would have been laughed out of the applicagtion process. From memory the best Waikato attendance was about 3000 at Waikato Stadium on a day when Mike Groom was doin g a half time promo with his kids, 2005-06.

I guess lifestyles have changed over time, with too many other competing recreations, but it is an issue that needs some thought and research, because at the moment for every fan whon pays at the gate, he is effectively being subsidised from other spheres (pokies mainly)  to the tune of at least $15 a head on the true cost of staging such matches. (The national spend is a minimum of $600,000 a season on national league)

As for Waitakere, Krishna's wedge would have paid for a whole squad and more elsewhere, from what my spies told me 18 months ago.

Had Waitakere not spent all that money on McGowen and put that instead into keeping Marshall and his assistants, and incentives for players, the club would be getting much more out of their on-field talent.

On the other hand I'm happy that both CU and HBU are taking the opportunity to push for an O League place alongside ACFC. Both these sides have good support and good facilities, unlike Waitakere. It's an embarrassment to have O League sides have to play on what's merely an open paddock at Fred Taylor. Waitakere's neglect in developing its facilities has always been shameful and flouts the original NAFC rules that stipulated a covered stand. Mind you WaiBop and TW flout that too, with equal lack of fans to match.

Homework Bluemagic.

This has now changed to a tournament in Fiji so while it may have been in an issue in the past, its not going forward for O League.

Waitakere v Canterury play-off decider should be on Sommet Sport next Monday evening. But can't see it scheduled on their EPG yet. So, I'll avoid the score and enjoy (hopefully enjoy) watching the game on the tellie. They've screened all Waitakere's home games so far this year.

I'm a Canterbury supporter and not about to fly up for the game but I hope if plenty of Waitak supporters can't be bothered going to the game but watch it on Sommet Sports instead, then that will help Canterbury!

Contact Sommet Sport on their Facebook to ask about when they are screening the game:

https://www.facebook.com/SommetSports

Also shows people give a stuff about watching local football on the tellie.

I wouldn't be surprised if Waitak lost their license eventually. I don't think the club has a lot going for it at the moment. It's marketing is poor which includes the outdated and unprofessional looking website. Some of the top players will probably leave at the end of the season to find better clubs who can offer more.

Not happy when two Auckland teams are dominating and now not happy when one of those two teams is no longer dominating.

Probably only happy when the ASB Prem ceases to exist so the Aussie A-league has no local NZ league to compete with.

Your trolls are pretty poor. Please point out where my state of happiness is mentioned.  I was only pointing out that it's unlikely they will lose their licence as that is how 6 other ASBP teams are run.

I hope Waitakere don't drop out of league but I do worry about their decline. In their heyday they provided ACFC with real cross town rivalry that used to attract good crowds. With South Auckland (Auckland United) likely coming into the ASBP soon it will be a real inter-city threesome, so to speak. However Waitakere need to raise their investment levels again and build some sort of covered stand at Fred Taylor. I understand there's some unhappiness amongst the players. Probably is a good time for Canterbury to do a smash and grab.

I still go back to one thing that under Rex's watch, this shit would not have happened. Say what you like about him but it never got to this.

My understanding is that more than a few people are not happy with Peter Boult and Steve Williams. I can only speculate about McGowan but he certainly came in and took care of his wedge first. I have heard that some sponsors are not happy with the team and petulance with all their billboards plastered around the team and ground. Also have heard that the franchise has not honoured some of its commitments that it made to get the money. Will they get that cash next year?

Something has to change and I think you start with the coaches, Boult and McGowan and then perhaps Jake and his old boys gang. The culture is all wrong and as much as I bag ACFC for their imports, at least they have the club run properly and harmoniously.

Rare words of praise for how ACFC are run, why I had to sit down for that one JV. I agree about Rex's reign, at least he kept the whole operation competitive. What has McGowan delivered for his large payday? How likely is it Waitakere could implode at the end of the season, especially if they don't make the playoffs?

Only Steve Williams I know. One's a caddy other Melville coach, pretty sure neither would be interested with any involvement with Waitakere.

Ecuador scored 4 goals in a half. It does happen, but would probably need an early sending off.

I reckon it'll finish 10 (ACFC) v 8 (Waitak) and a much narrower scoreline - 2-2?

My prediction is another thumping for Waitakere - a final two way score line of 8-2 to City. Not enough Waitakere players are there because they want to be.

A beer at the clubhouse on that Jerzy? I'll go for 8-2 City overall, you can have 10-8 to City and we'll see who's closest.
