Player ratings from Sunday's encounter between Waitakere United and Auckland City FC . Agree with NZ Herald reporter who said "You would have thought it was Waitakere who were a man down."
Interesting to read Emblin's comment today that he is missing a playmaker in the midfield , like Bullock, when he should have signed a player of similar calibre to cover in event of injury or suspension.
Some of Auckland City's young players who have performed consistently over a period of time at International level (Age Group) , World Club Champs , and Domestic level must be close to full Intenational honours .
Looking forward to seeing how Waitakere fear against Team Wellington. Hopefully they can get a result in their favour.

Very fair ratings scalp.
I'd like to add
Pitch rating 8
Facilities 2
Crowd 3
2500 for a NZFC game in Nelson and Auckland 'football supporters' can only muster 1500+.
Perhaps Waitak and City should play their home games down there? Spud2011-01-17 21:57:08

I hope Welly win to bunch up the top three placings and add a bit of interest in the battle for line honours. Good luck Stu and the boys.

Good Idea to rate players, i agree with most of what scalp thought, however il add the ones i differ too.

Alan Pearce - did not do a thing on the weekend. Spent alot of time on the ground and good to see a referee telling him to get up frequently. rating : 4 at best.
Micheal Gywther - probably gave the ball away 95 % of the time and ran into dead ends. rating : 3
Jake Butler - ive said this before in another topic but il say it again. Im still confused to what Waitakere see in him. He is a centre midfielder who seems not to want to get on the ball, ive never seen him run a game or be influential. rating 3.

I really ant see how the above players deserve a pass mark scalp.

Think you were spot on for the ratings you gave Auckland City..Although there Spanish boy at the back was absolute quality and what a find he has been for them this season...id give him a 9

Adam Thomas the young lad? you gave him a 6? justify that. I didnt even realise he was out there..3

Also would have given Dickinson an 8 or 9...thought he was brilliant upfront on his own all day, held it up well and great platform. Silly sending off so take a mark off is fair.

Overall thought Auckland City totally dominated the game with both 11, 10 and 9 men. Would have liked to have seen Corallas come on for City. Waitakere didnt have alot on the bench, is depth an issue?

Im sure these teams will be in the final, unless Wellington suprise us.

Also like to add : Pitch 9 - take a point off for the little hill it has in it.
Facilities 6 - good set up they have, good for viewing and kids can kick around next door so they dont annoy us. Beer tent on one side that saves fans walking around to clubrooms. The carpark and trafic in and out of the ground is an absolute nightmare and to be honest i believe it turns a few fans of football off coming to watch.
Crowd - 6 - good turn out for a club thats out west. Of course we would all like to see more.

Game highlights 'courtesy' AucklandCityFC website.
Very good they are too.
Why something like this can't make it on to TV to help promote more interest in our National League beggars belief.

They could pay for that or they could pay for the development paths that every expert in the country tells us we need.

A point that has been litigated on here many times.

What it comes down to is that the costs of production and then buying tiime on any channel are considered prohibitive for the returns to the ASB Premiership.  Mind you this is the same competion that is now 'amateur', barely promoted, and... I'll leave it at that as I suspect there could be repercussions if I went further.

Yes Roger Rabbit
Can see where you are coming from . Gave Adam Thomas a 6 because he is young and tries to please . Has some learning to do. Did take points off for sending offs. Yes Dickinson was outstanding. Butler and Bale do not create alot but try to bully their way through games. Agree with your comments on Pearce. Appears to protest everytime he gets tackled and good to see the referee telling him to get on with it . Pich was in good condition . Only time they get a crowd there though seems to be when Auckland City come across.

Hi Hard News
Maybe NZF would be bettter off funding a highlights package with the money they received from Auckland City's winnings from The World Club Champonships in Abu Dhabi .They feel it is better to fund a Phoenix Reserve team in matches against ASB sides .The winner of those games gets $2000. Maybe this would be better spent on the highlights packages to promote the ASB league.
How can they justify prize money in these nothing games in an amateur league ?

Already heavily litigated here.

They aren't games in the league they are exhibition matches.

Perhaps both?  Perhaps the ASB Challenge is funded by ASB and income from sources other than the World Club Champs where no NZ side attended last year?

I would think it's justified the same way some ASB Premiership sides justify paying ridiculous money to players for 'coaching' in an amateur competion, and an incentive for those sides to take the matches seriously.

I was told by Glyn Taylor (NZF) many years back to keep an eye out for the new promotion and broadcasting of NZFC when it was initially taken off air.

I'm still waiting.

Maybe Glyn is following instructions from Van Hattum and co -more interested to putting NZF money into the Phoenix and looking after the 82 club !

Scalp we all know that NZF are pumping money into the Phoenix and keeping them alive. But this thread is about the game from the weekend and the players taking part.. Up to Waitakere to promote its home games. I did not hear about it on radio nor in local rags..It however was a beautiful day and when its a day like that most like to go to the beach, just the kiwi mentality.

Thanks Spud, those highlights are very good. Who did the commentary?

I have to agree that Adam Thomas is very much overrated. He will end up as a rangy centre back because I do not think he has a natural position any higher than ther back two. The sooner he is transitioned there, the better because Ivan isn't getting younger and I'm sure the high pants on Sam Campbell stop him from playing because he is bloody ordinary. Would like to see Dan Morgan get more of a run. I think he gives more than Milne.

As for bagging the facilities, I think the ACFC boys need to remember that us regular folk whom do not arrive 3 hours before kick off for the love fest park our car in Mt Albert to watch a game in Sandringham. At least at Fred Taylor, I'm not parking in the next suburb over.

Goes by some Arab alias something like Shihad but think it's Simon Milton who got involved originally doing voice over NZFC highlight packages for Sky.

Ultimately crowds at national league games are our own fault as a football community. We can come up with all the excuses we want with respect to advertising etc etc but the ugly truth is today in the digital age it is incredibly easy for the vast majority of people to find out when and where a game is.
The other poor excuse is the one where the football was rubbish and people didnt want to waste their time.
Too many so called football fans only really follow the EPL. There is a local game out there, it has its own little stories within stories, its own culture its own heroes. It will never be of the same quality of the EPL but its our game and if someone claims to be a true football fan there is no excuse for getting to at least 1 game a season.
The poor crowds are our own fault as a football community, we need to stop blaming the advertising or lack of coverage on the news or the quality of the football. Its local football not EPL quality.
If we as a football community actually supported our own local game more news would find they would have to cover it more.

Funny how average City are, yet still manage to sit comfy in 2nd. What does that say about the rest of the league?

Three for me, and two for them.

Where did it say 'City are average' in that statement? I said Thomas would work better as a centre back because he isn't much chop anywhere else on the pitch, Sam Campbell was average and that Morgan offers more than Milne. Thats '1 player is crap, 1 player is better here and 1 player offers more than the other'

Best you check your glasses there but then this is typical of your type of posts.

Well Jeff forgive me for jumping to conclusions but i can go and grab several posts you made bagging City earlier on in the season from another thread if you so wish. Or i can leave it be and we can be on our merry way. Your choice.

Three for me, and two for them.
