My theories:
1, Because they couldn't justify the cost I imagine. Kiwitea is effectively free seeing as the management of Auckland and Central are so closely aligned.
2, They get decent crowds at Kiwitea but they've only been at risk of outgrowing it for finals football. I've been in 1500-2000 at Mt Smart and it's pretty damn difficult to create atmosphere.
3, They would have to use the concessions at Mt Smart, and Kiwitea has the best Steak Sandwiches at any ground in the world.
4, I always liked the idea of Mt. Smart two but it has a running track, which negates it (wish Newtown didn't).
