Just wondering whos going to try to make YHMs first competitive game of the season?
We're trying to get a sizeable group of us behind the team this year, so who on here can we expect to see at the first game to make some noise?

When over the weekend is it Joe ?

With TW and the Phoenix away, and depending on the time frame I might try and shoot up to catch it and catch up with some acquaintances that will likely be there.

You'll have to put up with the mumblings of Auckland City's grey and miserable brigade...

HappyTed - "Ay oop, them kiwi's 'ave no idea ow to support football'
Hostie - "I heard someone say something positive, I bet he works for New Zealand Football"
HappyTed - "That's alright we're the greatest supporters in the land, you and I, them locals have no idea"

Oh crap, now I have to work out when the Phoenix game is next weekend... hang on, it's Perth.

The only problem with a Sunday afternoon is the traffic getting home is just vile.

Circumstances allowing (Mrs News general mood and the Junior News stopping his impressions of superman) I'm there.

Will have the junior news with me (he'll have his arm in a cast) plus Smithy246 and maybe one other.

An attempt at supporting the team will be behind one of the goals, having a yell at the Auckland players. All welcome to sit with us and attempt to form some sort of vocal support for the team !

I might be there...but don't bet on it.

Any chance of the brothers Ultra travelling ?

Actually i suspect Ric is more likely to get down here for a Phoenix game than follow Auckland to Palmy going on the last time I spoke to him.

Last time i spoke to him he was going but not in the Super 5 we're supposed to be going with another City fan called Kev.

Apparently Mike works Saturdays now but seeing as this is a Sunday he may be able to come as well.

Three for me, and two for them.

Welcome to a wet FMG Stadium for this season opener between YoungHeart Manawatu and defending champions Auckland City. It has been raining all day in Palmerston North and the players will have to contend with a slight westerly wind.

0

min

- We're underway. Manawatu have the slight breeze behind their backs but it won't come into play greatly.

4

mins

- Yellow card - Manawatu skipper Ian Robinson has been booked by referee Jamie Cross after an over-aggressive tackle.

20

mins

- It's been a tough midfield battle so far with few scoring opportunties.

27

mins

- GOAL! 0-1 Bryan Little has given Auckland the lead with a shot from inside the area. A great start for the defending champions.

30

mins

- Yellow card - Manawatu's Uruguayan import Pablo Yackson has gone in Cross' little black book for a tackle on Grant Young.

33

mins

- Yellow card - Scott Robson has followed his team-mate into that little black book after a challenge on goal scorer Little.

45

mins

- Halftime - Auckland go to the break 1-0 up. It's been a tough midfield battle with Auckland showing the greater attacking intent only to be held at bay by some aggressive Manawatu defence. Three good saves from Michael Utting have also kept Manawatu in the contest.

46

mins

We're udnerway in the second half. Can Manawatu fight back?

49

mins

GOAL! 1-1 Drama at FMG Stadium where Uruguayan Gouzalo Nieres has scored from the penalty spot after being chopped down in the box. Fijian striker Osea Vakatalesau initially missed the penalty but referee Cross ordered a re-take as Utting moved too early.

53

mins

- Yellow card - Nieres has followed up his goal with a booking for an elbow on an unidentified Auckland player.

55

mins

- GOAL! 1-2 Bryan Little has his second to take Auckland back into the lead after lifted a freekick fromt he right hand edge of the box over Mtu's wall and past Utting.

69

mins

- Auckland Sub - Urlovic off, Anello on.

74

mins

- Auckland Sub - Coombes off - De Monte on

81

mins

- Manawatu Sub -

83

mins

RED CARD! Manwatu are down to 10 after Gouzalo Nieres went from hero to villian after seeing red for his second booking.

85

mins

- GOAL! 1-3 It's a hat-trick for Bryan Little after the Scotsman waltz into the box and shot past Utting.

86

mins

- Auckland sub - Young off, Mathews on.

90

mins

- Yellow card - Vakatalesau is booked for pushing.

It's all over at FMG Stadium with Auckland City making a great start to their title defence thanks to Bryan Little's hat-trick.

250 was a very average attendance. We've normally been pulling in much more than that. Crap weather regardless, it was still the champions and the first game of the season, so 250's very disappointing.

5182 is the largest post count I care to find... shame only about 2 of them have been about football.

Been annoyed about the lack of publicity about it in Palmy. There has been very little publicity and no ad nor article in the Saturday paper

Was an enjoyable second half (I missed most of the first after getting stuck behind someone driving a Mazda Bongo).  Couple of good goals from Brian Little (we've got the wrong Little brother, wrong Little broooooooooother...etc etc), the first a free kick that was quality and the second a calm finish past a very confused looking Mike Utting.

Manawatu didn't do themselves any favours, resorting to pumping it long over their midfield and getting increasingly panicked.  Some good play when they thought about it and they'll be feeling that the scoreline doesn't fairly reflect their ability.

Good to hear the Green Frenzy plugged by the ground announcer although I agree with Feverish's post in another thread about it being a bit cheeky to nick the shirt design without asking, but on the upside at least someone's getting behind an NZFC team in Palmy.  I'll do my best to make the trip up for the Frenzy's first official game.

Spoke to some lads behind the goal at one end who were doing their best at getting some chanting going.  The only other chant going on was variations on "f**k off ref you c*nt"...unfairly aimed at ref Cross who was, for the impartial spectator, doing a very good job.

All in all an entertaining afternoon.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I've never understood why people don't support the football in Palmy ai. the Manawatu rugby team, whilst performining well historically, has flatted to decieve for the last 25 years!

football teams  perform better than rugby sides at palmie boys, yet most people would still rather watch the 1st xv lose than the 1st XI win.

I watch all the games when I'm back in the area, but then I have a family member in the team.

How did Robson and Richardson play on the weekend?

Hey Smithy, I was one of those guys behind the goal there. Pretty accurate summing up of the game there really but things can only get better from here. Man of the match for you? I thought Mouse was putting in alot of effort. Quansah made alot of runs but his finishing product was frankly awful 99% of the time.

We were willing to give him a chance, but from what i've seen Tim Richardson is the much better choice on the right wing. Maybe not as much pace but he can go past the full back and hes got a good finish on him too.
