laird's in the cccp.  sale, maemae not back.  totori at waitak.  imre at wellington.  englefield?

it's a decent squad, provided the foreigners come through and saralegui lives up to potential.

keeping robbo was the best coup

How many of those players are actually products of the Manawatu?

At best 4 as far as I can see.

Is that a good/bad thing?  Discuss...

impossible for manawatu and several others to possibly field competitive teams if they do not import. good for league bc improves overall standard and competition and good for players bc spreads the better ones around the country, rather than having a wasted stockpile who cant make tw or an auckland side

DialSquare.. u dont know much about the 'student city' formerly 'knowledge city'!

There arew 10/11  players from the watu, 8 from Palmy Boys'.

compare that to any of the North island clubs and you probly wont find many differences! from a population of 74,000 what do you expect??  look at all the imports the Bay have!

we have also lost Jason Hayne, Richard Gillespie and Steven Old out of the region. (Jarred Smith is debatable).
aswell as Sanjay Singh whose somewhere up with the natives in whangarei last i heard.

Hayden Englefield missed out on the starting line up a few seasons ago and didnt have time to warm the bench so is gone off to scotland, ireland ways.

I'm holding out for Maemae, there hasn't been any word at all on him. I think that Sale is more of a loss than Totori, but I still think we've got the positions they held well stocked despite the sizeable hole they left. Keeping Robinson as reg22 said was one of the best things we could have done, hes our natural leader and an inspiration to all the players on the pitch.

just checked that squad list that you have .. if you read the write up of the team that goes with it it says there are speculations about players heading to nz to play.. i.e the 2 above.

plus i think they have or should be arriving very soon in ptown

As I understand it, and I could be wrong, you can sign for 3 teams in a calendar window from July to June but only take the field for 2. They can be between different countries just that a stand down period exists.

I agree Oldys Fan, it seems a bit odd that Osea and Peni are in two teams...

Youngheart lost 1-0 to HBU today. Pamment in goal, seemed pretty solid, Yackson at left back was promising as well. Scott Robson may have been in the defence as well, played very well, and Yuki Tomomatsu was brilliant at left wing. Vakatalesau up front looked good as well, but admittedly missed a few good chances. Robbo promised us an improvement for next week though ;)

they are not in 2 teams. they have signed for manawatu and Ba must not have known this until after they posted their team sheet to OCL.

1 nil isnt too bad.. bet youngheart still dont have their best team on the pitch yet!

Unimportant question...is there a new strip this year to replace their rather tired looking one?

Permalink Permalink
over 18 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
club probably cant afford one
Permalink Permalink

A new strip would be cool. Green and white tho! As my dad once said " we will pass the ball and run it, green and white". Gotta learn from the turbos!

The green look greener on the shirt and the blue looks...bluer...
probably just because the old strip had faded in the sun
apart from that not a helluva lot different.

I hope their imports are up to scratch...... the solomon boys gave them so much more spare to work with last year

Good to see Mouse is still in the team...though he might have gone to aucks but good loyalty showen there.

The quality of boys high leavers won't be as high in the coming years as I here it. Getting Robson, Roydhouse and Richardson all in one year is quite exceptional.

What's the deal with Dalin Wilson? Last I spoke to him about 11 months ago he said he was getting back into training...has he not recovered?

Hayne would have been a great asset....he's no where near as selfish as he used to be at school.

I think the team probably won't do as well as last year, but hopefully they will surprise. As i've said, the quality of the imports will be the key

Haynes selfish? Just because I never saw him pass a ball at school doesnt mean he was selfish!
Hahaha jokes

Hayne past it more at school than Smith ever did. haha

They were both prima donna's at school. smith made up that he was sick to get out of the cricket tour to SA

classic in 03' when Kia Ora had the best team in shand shield soccer, but Hayne was such a ball hogg they ended up losing to phoenix and playing off for fifth and sixth
