8/9 games into this seasons NZFC, who's been your teams standout player so far? and why?
Not from my team but Waitakere's Danny Hay monstered
Wellington last week and for me was the classiest player on the
field

Pretty difficult to pick a standout from Manawatu this season as
they have struggled in most games. Ian Robinson and Ian Sandbrook
in midfield are still class and we'd be absolutely rubbish without
them. I've also been impressed with Nick Roydhouse this year as
well. Tons of pace and prepared to take players on down the left
wing. If only we had a clone of him on the right instead of Prince.

Bryan Little or Ben Sigmund.
Three for me, and two for them.

Ben totori for the sh*t he gave the wellington crowd! Man that was
funny

How is Utting playing for Manawatu? Is he standing out?

My team - Waikato - is struggling for a standout player but in a
difficult year I would say Robinson (goal) and Fowler are the pick.

For Hawkes Bay it has to be Mitch O'Brien in Goal and Cole Peverly
at the back. I think O'Brien is looking like the best keeper
in the league at the moment.

yeah ...siggy and ive a feeling our korean might just let loose one
day soon...
unclos I would have to say the Korean is the biggest load of sh*te
I have seen. What ever he is being paid is a waste of money. Van
Steeden or Feneridis could do that job just as effectively and
would save the club $10,000'S.
But agree with you Siggy has been our saviour. The team is a bit light weight for me this year.
I hear Fo'rodo? has already left the country. Another big wastye of money. He only played about 5 games and two of them were as sub.

Not a lot of stars at OU but wheeler out on the wing looks like he
could walk into any nzfc team.
Apart form that we've got a bunch of Southern League part timers no depth of the bench the reason were SECOND last. So in summary oru best players in order sort of
2 of our americans CB kevin taylor and CM terry
alvino look like real quaility as does Little in goal Our strikers
are really poor our third yank chad severs only scored his first
goal vs canty and it was a lucky goal mouth scramble. Our other
cente back John chisolm is good as is the ever young
Terry Phelan. Andy Coburn is defenetly up to it. That pratley fella
whomade totw on debuet could be real class in 3 years time.

I don't know how much of a fan you are. Firstly fans should
support the whole team. Secondly the Korean plays in the
midfield and has International Caps, Van Steeden is a very good
left back and capable centre back not a midfielder, feneridis is
young and after checking on the acfc website has only played 9
minutes of NZFC football. I suggest you must be a close
friend or relative to believe he is a better option then the cannon
shooter. From what I have seen the combination of Jeff Cambell
and the Korean has been very good. However I would say that
the stand out player for the year is Sigmund by a mile. I'm
sure the Phoenix will sign him and he will prove he should have
been involved from the start.

Actually i've also been impressed with Anelio or what i've seen of
him so far anyway.
Three for me, and two for them.

The Korean is absolute class, the standout midfielder in the comp by a mile and is getting better and better every week. Dont know where that comment came from CityFan??? Settle down fella. Sigmund agreed is the standout defender in the comp also. Both players are A-League material without question.

Does "The Korean" not have a name?
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I thought that Chris Bale has been a very strong midfielder for
Waitakere United. When he played against the Korean I thought
honours were even. He really dominated the midfield against my lot
(waikato). I would love to see the two of them playing together as
Bale would work behind the korean and we could really see the
Korean's passing range.

Different class really to be fair Marama. Their technical range is
miles apart.

Utting hasn't been stand out good for us, he hasn't made any
serious errors but there are times where his decision making has
left a bit to be desired. Also he's carrying alot of weight on him
this season, don't know if thats impacting on him.
Sandbrook and Robbo I have to agree here, been our only stand out players. Roydhouse and Richardson have impressed me though too, as has Rowe.

For Hawkes Bay,the Ferrari firing on 2 cylinders, goalkeeper
Mitch O'Brien by a country mile...And from the three teams to visit
Park island so far,Manawatus Nick Roydhouse really
caught my eye.Wish he would sign up for the Bay next season...

You leave Roydhouse alone you hear! If recent results are to go by
we're short on quality as it is! haha

There really isn't anything anyone can do if one of the big three
come looking for players. It is the nature around the world the
bigger clubs get the better players. I want to know why Waikato
can't recruit better players. We recruited Dale and Waitakere
recruited Bale - they are light years apart in ability. Our coaches
recruit poorly and the big three seem to recruit a lot better. Why
is that?
And no I am not talking about domestic players available. I am talking about players that come to NZ to have a standard of living. I dont believe it comes down to money as Napier never had a problem recruiting quality boys from offshoreMarama2008-01-18 15:23:18

My friend, in Hamilton, says that one problem has been the
fact that the players would have to be Hamilton based. They'd had
some negative responses on geography alone.

absolutly herendous!

He was fantastic on Saturday... and the supporters of the other A-League sides will hate him if he is Phoenix bound, because he niggles and scraps...

december. Surely he is worth a shout from the South.

The Ryan Fiachne dude made a few darting runs against Waikato,
looked good on the ball, but nothing ever came from his runs. You
could say his running is better than his passing. Was he truly the
best player in the league last month? Or was this a mercy award,
simply for the best of the worst?

One for the southern boys-that tall negro fellow at the back for Otago turned in a 'good un' here in the Bay a few weekends ago...
...and one HBU player (after O'Brien) who was poor against Otago but spot on in other games -Graham Fyfe.

That tall what fellow? PC in the forums thanks

Having seen a few of the games:
Auckland: For my money, Ben Sigmund is the best player in the league and to be fair, the best leader. He sets the example of his team and emplores them to follow. Grant Young is still class at 36.... Bryan Little has done well, Coombes and Uhlmann have played with control.
Waitakere: Alan Pearce is player of the season, ugly last year, much improved this year. Chris Bale has been surprisingly solid and John Perry has performed well without trying to be the star. If Totori could stay on his feet then he would be there.
Waikato: The Dan Robinson show. end of story....
(ok chuck in Hone Fowler who has lead well and Robert Gill playing a lone hand sometimes)
Hawkes Bay: Cole Peverley has been a revelation at Centre Back away from his usual midfield spot (for wanderers) Johnathan Taylor has filled in well. Jeremy who?
Manawatu: Trent Watson is in line for an All Whites squad spot but needs to reduce his silly fouls. Dominic Rowe has been dilligent and the two Ians always perform well. Honourable mention: Mr Bailey. Send your two Fijians back.
Wellington: Arise G little, your career is not finished. Imray has added stability and Adam Birch has been playing smarter
Otago: (note the american drawl) Kevein Taylor, Terry Alvino............
Canterbury: too far away to see sorry

I think it's fair to say waikato fans are pretty tired of outsiders saying how Rob Gill has played well. He has scored one miserable goal that wasn't a penalty and his work rate got worse and worse and worse until he finally cried off with injury -- as he probably should have done a lot earlier. he may be a good player, but he has seldom showed it in waikato colours. In fact since he stopped playing, Waikato haven't been beaten. Dan Robinson has made some briliant saves - and probably been to blame for several goals. Hone Fowler has been class.
