Right, we talked about it last season, this season we should actually do it.

Any ideas on a suitable venue? Same venue could also be used for the Match in January.

I think gangst means venue as in Pub to watch Phoenix when they are not playing in Christchurch.

The Bard on Avon always has UK football on, would have to get a commitment from them that they would screen Phoenix.

As to before the game here - The Lancaster is the closest pub to the venue - would make sense to have that as YF HQ for Jan 30?

If there is a venue which makes a commitment to showing Phoenix games for the yf community in CHCH then I think it would be only fair to attend the same venue for the game in Christchurch.

Yeah bring it on! Is it possible that no yf'er knows of someone who owns/manages a pub? When there was a push to do this right at the end of last season some went to the Grail who showed it.

I'm keen to congregate at a pub for some of the Phoenix games.  Having said that I'm not prepared to go to the effort to rings pubs, so if anybody does, big ups to you.

OK, I'm down in ChCh for the opening match on August 9. It would be great if by then there was an agreed venue for ChCh-based YFers to gather. It could also be your/our Southern pseudo-launch party. I'll be on the Eastern side of town, so that would be my preference.

So, what's the go?

I know, I know, its serious!

Hello again you Christchurchillians!

Where's the best bet for watching the game on Sunday? Any advance on the Holy Grail? Do they put it on / people watch at the Fox & Ferret at the Palms (that will be my 'localest' pub).
Come on you Phoenix!

I know, I know, its serious!

Someone sticky this to Wellington Discussion thread? Not many folk check this page. Keen as for getting a group of chch folk together? Any of you flatting around campus?

As it turns out, I'll be watching it at the Fox & Ferret at Shirley Palms - other side of town from varsity sorry, but my old neck of the woods. Hope to get a few along (including my bro' and his old Western football mates). Come along, I got in touch with the bar and they will be showing it and are keen for a bunch of fans to turn up (naturally!).

I know, I know, its serious!

Ended up going to the Craic- bar manager very friendly and put the football on with no hesitation. Not like the bloddy Fox and Ferret where they had the league on (not a Warriors game). Got chatting with a pom who'd recently moved over, reckons Ifill did a good job at Palace and will be a good asset

Probably need to clarify that you must have been at the Riccarton Fox & Ferret Drewy.

I was at the Palms Fox & Ferret (Shirley), the match was on the big screen, and quite a few football guys were in watching it. Only Phoenix failed to show up! Seemed like a half-decent venue for you (East) ChCh regulars.

I know, I know, its serious!

Where abouts is the Fox & Ferret in Shirley and how big is it? I'm more than keen to make an appearance, although I won't be able to make it every week.

I will be in Chch for the next two away games, and will meet up if we can decide on a venue. HHowever, through work (almost a coincidence) I will be back in Wellington for the home game weekends. Sounds like an awesome idea to meet up with you lads though, I was wondering what the go was.

Actually, I watched Sunday's game in St Arnaud (in the Nelson Lakes National Park) with the missus. A couple of others saw it was on in the bar and came in to watch - one of whom was Timmy Brown's missus' sister (or so she claimed). Small world.

Since we know where the venue is .. AMI .. we have a few things to sort out for January

1: Where will Fever zone sit? Tui or Paddles? Tui stand big piss up, Paddles small good for volume behind a goal I presume

2: How many people are keen for  a kick around? If so I know QE2 wil have goals up. If not then I'm sure somewhere like Avonhead will keep theres up.  We could do Wellington Fever v Chch Fever. Or just a social game..?

3: Prematch/Aftermatch pub, Don't think i would get in though as i'm only 17 :(

news can you change the title to someone about "Phoenix in CHCH in January"

James, this thread is about a venue to watch matches during the season, not about the CHCH game in January.

The Lancaster is good. Haven't been there in a few years though.

Right, lets sort this out CHCH for goodness sake. There are loads of supporters in our great city but no cohesion. Apparently the Bard was good for AW's game, loyalgunner said in another thread that the Harewood Tavern showed Nix game last night, The  Holy Grail has been known to put it on the big screen, and the Fox & Ferret in Palms has been known to show it also. Maybe a poll should be started but lets see how this goes.

Where can I watch the A-League match tonight in Christchurch? Will most pubs put it on?

Just as unorganised as those Aucklanders a year on and nothing has been set. Guess we all can't be arsed leaving the house and paying more for booze and taxi's.

Yes It is a crap effort TBH. I think we should make the Macs bar our watering hole (which was designated as the fever pub for the CHCH game). I'm 3rd year at UC and it's lame not knowing any other hard core fans like myself. There is plenty of them in CHCH too. It's about time we got together

I'm off to watch this one at the Bard tonight. They're definitely showing the game, and as an English-themed pub they're a bit more footy- rather than rugby-oriented anyhow, I've had good experiences of watching other games there. Hope for a good atmosphere in the pub, and a great game and result!

I tried to get this ball rolling the last couple of seasons but couldn't stir up enough interest to make it worth while. There are sh*t loads of fans in Christchurch and we could easily fill a venue. Macs bar played bloody good host the night the Nix came to town. $22 a jug though might be a stretch for some..

there is plenty of interest but the problem is finding a pub that will agree to show every game live.

Don't know if this is the best thread, but I'm going to be in Christchurch for the season opener (would really rather be heading to the RoF after work, but arranged to be flying to Christchurch that afternoon before the draw came out). The motel I'm staying at is walking distance from the CBD - where would be best to head to to watch the game?

Try the Bealey Speights Ale House, its a short walk from CDB

Has plenty of beers and grub, they crank the commentary up for Warriors games, so no problems getting sound.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind - it's the opposite side of the CBD from where I'm staying (Google maps says 44 min walk). Would they definitely be playing the game on 13 August? Anywhere closer to Hagley Ave?

The Holy Grail. I'm going to make a fuss about it this year and get people down there. It's not everyone's favorite bar but it's big, has a massive screen, shows Phoenix games (with sound if enough people are into it) and has $6 pints.

Holy Grail needs to get their big screen (movie-size) sorted. All the colours are off and it's like watching a nuclear meltdown affected match.

Bard is ok as a smaller venue but then their tv's are budget too!
