I'd love to get as many home games as possible but I know that that just isn't possible for me. I understand your desire to be at the game to support the Nix but doesn't our support go beyond actually attending? If you can't go to the game why not bring the game to you? Organise a Phoenix party for you and your son. BBQ, have some friends over (maybe some of your sons friends who don't get to go to the games either), enjoy the game that way... my .02c

I want to know what the concert is!

Also, I was under the impression the returfing was December, and the concert clash was January?

So, for the January one, the match could've been played on the Friday or Sunday no?

Junior News isn't exactly 5, but he was 7 when he first started attending pre-match at the Backbencher and events at the Kings.  Within reason and with proper supervision a 5YO isn't an excuse.

Understand that choice Kapitinix, we choose not to take our 5 year old Feverish to the Bencher too....but he always turns up anyway and usually NEEDS supervision....

It's a rugby league idea, playing home games elsewhere.

Cost in this recession has become an important issue for those earning less than 50k and rightly so. I can see both sides of the fence on this oner. Whilst looking forward to the Palmy trip, CHCH is a bit different

Unless some really cheap air fares crop uip with that new airline. Air New Zealand are always way more expensive than most others. Get enough fans who want to go, i wonder how much hiring an aircraft would be??

Got it together thanks Auskiwi, have found your contributions to the thread unhelpful.  It's a forum, opinions can be given.  If we all got over it an opinion would never be posted on here.  I am actually finding some of the comments on here really useful and constructive.  Many thanks to those who are helping me see round the problem.

This would be great, especially if it was able to return the same day.  In 30 years of football supporting I have been up and down the UK supporting my team, I feel I've put in the supporting hard yards.  I have no problem with the Palmy game and we will be there.  The Christchurch game is a whole different thing and feels unnecessary.  A clash with a concert just doesn't cut it for me.  When your working on a budget and times are tight you need a bloody good reason to justify a layout of this sort of money, especially when you have already spent 300+ on season tickets.

Pretty sure an exact date will be pencilled in, but yes, if it's a big show I guess it may take a day or either side to set up and dismantle the stage etc.

Christchurch, I'll probably go to the Palmy game so long as I have somewhere to stay.

Fixed.

Seriously, it's just something we've had a vague thought about -  no real logistics - but depending how it works we might look at having some parts dry and some not so dry.

tell me more about this "supervision"

Seriously though, I'll personally be making trips where I can stay with family/friends. Understand that that's not an option for everyone, but there are plenty of cost-cutting ways around things like transport, accomodation food etc.

Not that it matters, but some of us pay a sh*tload more than $350, several times per season, to see the Nix.

I have just done a quick search to work out the cost of going down to Christchurch for the game on 30th Jan.  The figures are for 1 adult and 1 child as we both attend every home game.  The flights would be $172 return.  On top of this I would need to factor in parking costs at the airport and a room for the night in Christchurch as the latest return flight on Saturday 30th is 6.40 p.m. as well as food, drink etc.  I can't see much change from $300-$350.  This is way more than an adult season ticket for the whole season.  (These figures are from the Air NZ website).

I have held off from writing this email as I wanted to try and find the positive in the club playing in Christchurch, but I'm fed up now and I have given up.  I was really looking forward to more home (Wellington) games this season as 10/11 just isn't enough to satisfy the football itch.  I would have been happy to accept an increase in season ticket prices to reflect more games.  I am just very disappointed that the club has decided to take games away from Wellington.  A club has to develop its home fan base, the people who will come week in and week out.  The ones who sit and watch 0-0 home draws against Central Coast and 4-2 defeats to Melbourne when we think playing the ball along the surface of a lake would be great tactics.  We are the ones who front the money up weeks before the season starts, purely on hope and faith because that is what supporting your club is all about.  For us it is not about an event, a one off, it means much much more.  A club that starts to forget this is in danger of losing touch with the people who really do support when times get tough, because I have shown up for everything this club has given us over the past two seasons.

Some questions to finish.

With a clash with a concert, why are we not just playing in Australia on that weekend?
Will we always be stuck with just 11 home games in Wellington as the competition continues to expand?
Why a game towards the end of the season, when things get really interesting?  I guess us lucky Wellington fans get the hard slog mid-season games.

I am happy to be corrected on my figures by the way, I would still like to try and support the team if it is possible but times are tough.

I paid that going to every home game I've been to, most times a lot more.

Can't say I'm sympathetic

Im a selfish git and i dont care what you say.I support Wellington Phoenix not all around New Zealand Phoenix.

So they grow the the fan base and what next season we get 4 games away. The warriors unfortunately have found that its best to keep their home games in Auckland  as does their basketball team. Not a good day at all for me 1st i find out about the home/away games then we get crocked striker. So went out and kicked the number plate.

Personally I think that the Wellington Phoenix should play all their games in Wellington.  Away trips are good fun, but we already have about 15 of them (assuming we make the finals) so we don't need anymore.

It is great news for the fans in Christchurch, but that should not be the concern of the Phoenix.  Looking after the local fan base (more games, better vlaue for money with season tickets, etc) should be the priority.

I cannot believe the selfishness of some Wellington people "its our toy, and we arent going to let anyone else play with it". Waah waahh

While I applaud the loyal supporters for what they have done in helping establish a credible NZ football club, I think that 1 game that MAY be out of their reach in 3 years is not the end of life - in fact they should be embracing it.

Yes it is the Wellington Phoenix, but if it wasnt for the whole of NZ you wouldnt have this team! The A-League had every right to say 'piss of NZ' after the Kingz/Knights, but why didnt they? Because the A -League wanted the NEW ZEALAND tv income, and the sponsors wanted exposure in the NEW ZEALAND markets. Hence why they extended and extended and extended the bid deadline.

You are quite happy for the rest of NEW ZEALAND to support your team from a distance, and buy the merchandise but don't think they should have easier access to ONE game in 3 years. Heck, the amount of outsiders for the Beckham game helped balance the books. As the Auckland game showed, part of the success of the Wellington game was that the Phoenix have captured the imgination of the NZ football public.

The Phoenix can't survive on local sponsorship - Sony and Interislander, 2 of the main sponsors came in because of the NATIONAL coverage - if they wanted to support a local Wellington team and local football. then they would have gone for Team Wellington.

Some get upset when the Phoenix are hardly mentioned in NATIONAL radio stations or tv news. Can't have your cake and eat it - like I said, can't crave the attention and the income and give nothing back.

I am a supporter from Palmy and attend whenever I can. Does that mean because of where I live, I have less rights to see the team? Or should it be that we are thanked for making that financial , time consuming and enthusiastic commitment?

Sorry if it sounds a rant, but the childish reactions of some on here on this topic have totally disgusted me.

I'm gutted that I will miss a game next season. I can't see us flying the whole family down and back. Just checked the Air NZ website and the last return flight leaves at 6:40pm - so there would have to be hotel rooms and meals too.

I can't believe the people who think Wellington doesn't have the right to host home games. For the sake of consistency, I presume these are not the same people who complained when we kept getting called the NZ Phoenix?

What also pisses me off is the claim in the season ticket email that we're being done a favour by keeping the season ticket price the same for increased games.

So that's a family pass of $520, plus about $300 (minimum) flights, $300 for hotel rooms (need more than one, so that's probably low), plus meals etc. Yeah right, same price.
