The game is at the end of January, that gives you 9 months to plan and/or save for it.

There's more options than just flying - there's ferry/car combo, ferry/train combo.
Plus there are 3 airlines flying between Wgtn and Chch.

You can make it a weekend away, a trip away will be fun for your whole family.
Think of it as a mini-away trip, without having to go to Australia.

It seems like you're saying that because the trip is too expensive for you, thousands of people in Christchurch who have never seen a game of professional football should be denied the chance?
That sounds a bit selfish to me.

A bit selfish? But that's the relationship. The club want us to sign up and be a faithful season ticket holder. In return, what you expect is the club to be faithful in return. You don't start thinking about giving your single mates a chance with your wife, so why must we lend clubless cities our football team?

Maybe we should rename ourselves the Wellington Swingers

To the whingers, you have a few options:
-GET ANOTHER JOB TO FUN YOUR TRAVELS.
-DITCH THE FAMILY (PHOENIX, KIDS, WIFE, IN THAT ORDER).
-BUY SKY AND WATCH IT AT HOME, IN HD, ON A MASSIVE LCD NOT MADE BY SONY.

Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but if it's a 'party trip' you're after - the Picton - CHCH train has a bar onboard. The beer isn't the flashest, but it's good to sit back and get drunk, and not have to worry about a sober driver!

I can appreciate members with families, and/or a tight budget are going to have problems getting to CHCH - I am still weighing up going down there.

But just picture it - the infamous Holy Grail full of YF boys chanting "Oh Wellington"

if your gonna cry about it don't go. if your gonna be a true supporter and get behind the nix go

Are you seriously neive enough to think that those - for whatever reason - who can't afford to attend a game not only in another city but on another island aren't true supporters?

By the same logic I am not a "true" supporter because I can't afford to attend every match when last season I would have spent upwards of $1500 attending phoenix games..

Too suggest that people aren't "getting behind the nix" because they can't afford to go is both stupid and inaccurate.

I think this is a great idea, and i know that most of the boys I go to the nix games with are from Palmy, so that will diff be a big game.

As for the Chch game, think thats another great idea and hell why not road trip it for the boys. And yes its unfortunate that some people can't go but hell i normally miss all the games at home untill November as im in Dunedin studying. So I do the next best thing. Chuck on my yellow fever shirt head down the local and have a pint. It amazing the support i get from the locals as well.

I went to the midland game last year and found the only dispointing thing is I was the only one singing hahahaha (got some funny looks too.)

And anyway, the bigger the fan base grows the larger the profit for the club gets and the more secure the clubs future is.

IMO, we are a Wellington club so we should play our home games in Wellington. However, as every game is an 'away' game for me, I don't really give a f**k where the games are cos the amount of travelling will be much the same anyway.

Going slightly off topic, how long has the deal to run?

KiwiRail are one of my clients and from what I can tell, non-essential expenditure is getting reined in by the government. I have no official inside word, but colleagues say it would be surprising if things like Nix sponsorship are renewed.

I see it is possible to do this trip from Jafaland in one day for $118 return. Return flight departs at 8.20pm.

Understandable - the A-League site has a lot of incorrect times in the fixture section. They say all fixtures are in "local time" but mainly it is AEST/AEDT. They have a 40 page PDF that has all the correct info with one exception -  they have DST starting in NZ a week late according to NZ Internal Affairs.

Hrm..

[QUOTE=serepisos4nix]if your gonna cry about it don't go. if your gonna be a true supporter and get behind the nix go

So, "being a true supporter"  = "going to Chch"
Hence, not "being a true supporter" = not "going to Chch"
Thus, "not going to Chch" = "not being a true supporter"

I think it wasn't an issue of us taking your quote the wrong way, it was your quote not expressing what, judging by your retraction, you (hopefully) meant That or you're just backpedaling

That being said, " just get behind the nix and support them no matter what the decision" is something I agree with.

Pacific Blue eh? Might just have to visit their site and should i not be able to make the game, I am sure someone on here would buy the cover price for the ticket off me. No need to make dosh out of my fellow nix fans!!

Just checked $55 (08:00 dep wgtn) to get down there and $70 (16:45 dep chch) or $54 dollars(19:30 dep chch)  to come back the next day. Plus your wgtn car park or taxi/bus/train fare. Also your taxi/bus fare to and from the game, Also you accomodation if stuck there over night.

Selfish  and proud of it here.1st season we had good crowds,2nd season for reasons many and varied they were  not so impressive.Heres an idea to build that fan base and make the ROF an even harder place to visit lets take some of our home games away.

Lets just hope in round  25 we arnt in a battle for 4th spot  with Adelaide because if we are they will be glad they dont have to visit the ROF.I doubt that there will be many regular fans who will be able to make both trips away especially the much spoken about families the Phoenix go on about so often.I seem to remember many posting in various threads last season that we arnt reponsuble for the promotion of football. We get 2 home/games an know its all about promoting the game.

It's probably going to be at AMI (though is unconfirmed as yet), even so the other suitable venue (QE2) would be easy access from anywhere in the city.

This issue has generated a lot of different and well defined viewpoints! As long as this isn't going to ultimately be a financial dog for the club I can't see what the fuss is about. I mean, I can...but really...It is 8 months away, plenty of time. Stash $7 a week underneath your pillow or something.

Personally I am really looking forward to going down. For all my talk of my rock-star, jet-setting lifestyle, I have been to Christchurch once, and that was only to pass water in one of their many fine public amenities. It will be nice to check out the place. Hopefully there will be a nice crowd there.

Ferry's, planes are usually heavy booked at this time so it would pay to organise your trip early or you could miss out.

I'd like to think the club is talking to Qantas/PB/Air NZ as they'd be confident of putting a fair few bums in seats... would be great to be able to offer members a package. ie: flights down/back on the day/night with free entry and bus to/from the match for $99 or something... shouldn't be too hard to work out.

Think that it is great the fact that there is so many strong opinions on the games going out of elly. Just really proves the passionate support that the nix have. Imagine if a Canes game was taken out of town. A few grumblings together at the pub would probably be the brunt of it.

If it is possible to go down really like the idea of the Ferry then Train, make it a good proper road trip. Getting pissed on the way down with the "Oh Wellington" consistently getting louder.

I think it's total BS that home league games are essentially being played away, regardless of what the reasons are. The very fact that we lose home ground advantage is only the beginning.

Road trip for a home game FFS.

Total BS.

Wellington Phoenix Trip To Christchurch?
From: Cade Boyce ([email protected]) Sent: Friday, 24 April 2009 1:37:46 p.m. To: [email protected]

Dear Sir/Madam

The latest release of the Hyundai A-League draw states that on January 30th the Wellington Phoenix play a game in Christchurch.I am a part of the Yellow Fever supporters group and a lot of people are starting to stress about the cost of getting down to Christchurch and accommodating the night there. As a sponsor of this wonderful team i was wondering if there could be a deal made to help out the Yellow Fever. The option of Interislander (also being a sponsor) stringing a deal together has been put to Tony Pignata as well as many more options being discussed by the fans in the link below

http://yellowfever.co.nz/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8982

Thank you for your time

Sincerely

Cade Boyce
