Also on this for anyone wondering about options of getting from Sydney to Canberra -
Flixbus (an intercity bus company from Europe) has just started in Australia and at the moment is offering buses from Sydney to Canberra for 9.99AUD - they go from both Sydney Central Station and Sydney Airport. It stops in central Canberra (more central than the train station) The trip only takes 3hrs 10mins which is faster than the train also (as the train has many stops, whereas the bus is direct).
I haven't used Flixbus in Aus (used it once in Europe though) but they have WiFi and power outlets.
I used Murray's bus from Sydney Central to Canberra the other month for the All Whites game and those buses are usually about $47 one way and also 3hrs 10mins. It also had WiFi, usb ports and seats were reasonably comfortable. It was pretty easy and a decent price (I think train tickets are usually more expensive).
Edit: looks like Murray's is currently matching Flixbus' offer by offering $10 seats at the moment
